Punk frontmen and no Joey Ramone or Johnny Rotten? C'mon, man.

Aerosmith is incredibly "meh" to me, but Tyler WAS definitely a frontman.

Johnny Rotten was McLuhan's creation; he was just silly. I love the Ramones (of course) but Joey is a nothing frontman, intentionally, and would be proud to be so called.

Early, raw Aerosmith is great. They crawled up their own as-s after they made it. (c.f. the Stones)

Happens to every band or musician as they get older. They reach a creative high point in their late 20's/early 30's, and then it's all downhill from there. At best, just treading water. Whether it's too much money and soft living(related), or as a result of those, they just don't give a crap anymore, that's how it goes.

Get Your Wings is my top album followed by their first one and Toys in the Attic. Rocks is okay but after that they went downhill.

Yep, they're great up to the release of Rocks. After that, the coke took over. Followed by rehab and reunion, at which point money took over and all their prefabricated 80s pop pablum saturated the airwaves.

Toys in the Attic is great front to back. There are good tracks on the other albums up until Rocks.

Post rehab sucks, but somehow I give them a pass and am glad they came back to some pop-culture prominence even if I never listened to any of it.

Didn't Steven Tyler lock himself in a room for like 30 days or something and went on a huge heroin binge back in the late 70's or early 80's?

Until Rocks, or including Rocks?

Back in the Saddle
Last Child
Sick as a Dog

Classics in the Aerosmith catalog.

When I think of Tyler I think of heroin. I'm sure he was coking too because between 1971 and 1987 the only person in American not absolutely doing coke every single day was my mother, and I have some doubts about her.

But Tyler is the heroin poster boy right after Reed and Burroughs and right before Davis, Dee Dee, and Holiday.

Including Rocks.

Poorly worded on my part.
