Greg Allmans Southern Blood, eerie, it has stayed in my truck CD player for 2 days now. Different sound, horns, Piano (instead of B3). He hopes his music haunts us when he is gone, it does me. His cover of Going, Going Gone got me.
Picked this up based on your recommendation. Multiple thank yous are in order. Quality album.

TCM ran "Monterey Pop" last night. Watch Janis Joplin just fkn wow Cass Elliot and everybody else, me included.

I think I could be the only person on earth who love the blues and loathes Janis Joplin but good lord, all hat and no cattle.

Give me the fat homely girl over the thin ugly girl any day.

Or for that matter, give me the original no prize herself girl.

And I'm with you... Joplin makes nails on a chalkboard seem like a pleasant sound.

I prefer mine BIG

Female blues singers are almost without exception nasty looking. Bessie and Ella get picked at the dance after the cross-eyed girl and the lesbian. Ma Rainey looks like the hooker in Fritz the Cat.

Hell, why qualify it -- blues singers are almost without exception nasty looking. Nobody's bringing John Lee Hooker home except at gunpoint. All those old delta f-ckers look like wraiths. The Angola murderer I can't recall his name d-mnit* is among the meanest looking humans who ever came down the pike. Even po' boy Robert Johnson looks more like a junior accountant than a bad as-s who sold his soul to the devil.

* Lead Belly. I'll amend that, though. It appears he only got ugly later in life. Young and, you know, killin', he was actually a fine looking man.

One thing I've always liked about Joplin(The Queen as Albert King called her)was the raw emotion she put into a song/concert which was on full display on that video I put up. Kinda ironic her last show was at Harvard Stadium in 1970 but I wasn't really into the blues then. She didn't look like Moms Mabley Kep, rather plain if you ask me. Just a good old gal from Texas and her voice was her voice. You knew when she was singing.

Anyone expecting Allman Brothers will be disappointed. an Album about his choices in life and his pending death. He never did finish the album as he broke down doing Adams Song and the song just trails off. He never went back in the studio
