Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

I hope you went I would like a review. :)

It's tonight. ;)

Listening to Floyd 6/27/77 Boston as a (possible) primer.

Coz you know, a Roger dominated Floyd show will get me set for David. :D

Actually, it's intentional.

When I saw David last year, I had heard so many of the shows leading up to the one I was at that it took a bit away from my enjoyment - I was too familiar with the set.

Love Animals though and this is a good show.

Oh yeah and David on vocals during Dogs is a treat... have gotten so used to Carin (who does an exceptional job) or others in Rogers' bands doing this song.

If I could have been any musician in his prime I might pick Lindsey Buckingham. I know there are more obvious "rock stars" but I get the feeling he remembers most of his success, he's a genius, and I mean come on Stevie Nicks.

If by "be" you mean also have their mind then the choice is easy. Lemmy.

If I have to still be "me," whatever that is, but then I also live the life with the skills of any artist, that's much more difficult, but I'll try Ric Ocasek. Great guy, great music, great marriage. I see your Nicks and raise you a Porizkova.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

Was feeling lazy once I got home, but dragged myself off the couch headed to the theater.

Great decision.

Was really a cool experience.

The concert video is quite good. The amphitheater is used to great effect in the light show - something that I of course did not get at the show I saw at the United Center.

Lights all around the oval are incorporated and the drone shots and pans are the mvp of the whole thing as far as I'm concerned. Also - pans of the show at twilight with the volcano in the background are surreal.

The performance is solid to outstanding. David goes off on the Sorrow solo and you can tell it's a bit better than average even to the bandmates as Pratt's reaction tells.

Great Gig includes a male singer along with the two female voices - a first that I know of.

High Hopes and a Boat Lies were both highlights - the former as a reminder of the fantastic PULSE shows and the later a tribute to Rick Wright with 8 voices singing... beautiful.

Pretty sure David flubbed a note on Wish, but it was left in. If I heard it/saw it right, I'm impressed that it wasn't edited out or overdubbed.

Run Like Hell was as bombastic and spectacular as always.

What pulled it all together though was being in such a big room with a large screen and BIG sound.

I have a really nice flatscreen and my stereo is attached to it, but I can't replicate the sonic experience that I got tonight with Dolby Atmos and a 40 foot tall screen.

Was really a rare audio and visual experience.

The surround sound was used to great effect in an atmospheric way as opposed to a gimmicky way. You could hear crowd around you and the mix was in stereo although not directional as if you were listening to just a left and a right.

I'm now hoping for a 25th year anniversary showing of P.U.L.S.E. in a couple of years. Would LOVE to see that on the big screen.

Oh and one final thing... The theatrical version is a truncated show compared to the home video as there is at least another hour's worth of songs that I did not see tonight. At 2 hours though, the theatrical release/edit was just right.

Oh yeah and a recliner in a quiet room was pretty nice although obviously it's still better to actually be at a show.

I see your Nicks and raise you a Porizkova.

Meh. For a Barbie-doll hater that's an odd counter. I think you more aspire to being the next Bachelor than the next true artist.

Linsdey just nails it on so many levels and banging Stevie in her prime? C'mon. For pure rock star, rock star with a full career and head on their shoulders it'd be tough to beat Dave Grohl, Paul Westerburg or Peter Buck.

Um, no. If you knew anything about Porizkova (which clearly you do not) you would know she isn't a Barbie doll.

My favorite artists to have their life would, obviously, be more cerebral. I had a hard time coming up with anybody to be honest. The intersection of good person, interesting person, and talented person in popular entertainment is infinitesimal.

Sensitive, sensitive. Jeez you sound like the one boy band fan always defending the ugly one.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

Yes. That's it exactly. Thank you for your contribution.

Maybe if you didn't so often take the approach of, "My opinion is superior to yours" rather than, "Hey, here's my choice" you wouldn't be rolling your eyes at the first comment. ;) I'm sure she's a fine woman so lighten up, Francis. I know she was a model, married a rock star, acted a few times and co-wrote a children's book 25 years ago so clearly not a Barbie doll. :p

1. Everyone thinks their opinion is correct for them, otherwise it wouldn't be their opinion.

2. As I've said a thousand times, every single post here other than a naked fact is prefaced by an invisible "IMHO" and/or "YMMV."

I don't know why you chose to read this as anything more than the rough play everyone has here on every subject. I didn't mean anything else by it.

3. There is no 3.

I wonder if LB ever got to put the coke in Stevie's bum...

Without a doubt, there were better looking groupies around than Stevie. Probably more adventurous too.

She was pretty, don't get me wrong, but nothing out of the ordinary.

1. Of course but I don't think my opinion is better than yours - just better for me.
2. I'm not the one that rolled his eyes so recalabrate your own sensitivity meter ;)

Gurt - I'm sure there are better options out there I wasn't really basing the choice on Stevie alone. I just <3 Lindsey in general. :)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

I'm a dabbler when it comes to FM - listen to Rumours every once in a while and have a couple concerts from that era.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 4: Songs She Sang to Me, Songs She Brang to Me

Since last summer I've been to more concerts than the previous 25 years before that. Tonight is The Offspring and Sublime. Tomorrow Ronnie Earl is headlining the Blues for Veterans Association 5th Annual Blues Festival.
