Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing
Never liked them either at first. Saw them on some late-night show, Fridays or maybe even SNL, and they, especially Byrne were just too quirky for my New England small town upbringing. But their cover of Take Me To the River changed all that. I think Fear of Music was the first of theirs I bought, and I loved it, that denser, funkier beat, and then picked up their back catalog, and then Remain in Light when it came out. They lost me after Little Creatures though. Not quirky enough.
Name of This Band is Talking Heads is phenomenal. The show I saw them on during the Speaking in Tongues tours was, for several years, the best show I've ever seen in my life. All these years later, it's still #2.
Gurt, do you have Byrne's soundtrack to The Catherine Wheel? If you don't I highly recommend you track it down. Edit: Actually, don't. I don't think the entire thing has ever been released on cd, the cd version has tracks that are trimmed or edited. . Way back in the day, I bought the cassette version, which had the entire show in its entirety, and maybe ten years or so now, I burned a copy of that to cd. I could burn you a copy if you wanted one.
B-52s were the same way. First heard them and hated them. Year or two later, and I owned all their albums.
