Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

Good stuff Bob. I haven't listened to MCS much although I have one cd downloaded from the library.

I've been listening to REM quite a bit after quite a bit of a hiatus on my part. They were my favorite band when current for many years and I got burnt out a bit after Bill Berry left. I've been digging back in and although the first couple records after he departed were not very good imho, they finished on a real high note which is which is amazing considering how many bands go out on a whimper after being around that long.

I'm just starting to get into R.E.M. I have "Automatic" and I have "Out of Time," and a couple others, but don't have anything from the 1980s.

I also listened to Interpol today; everything except the self-titled album, and that's only because I don't know where I put it.

I would start with "Reckoning", then hit up, "Life's Rich Pageant", "Document" and then, "Green". I personally love, "Murmur" and "Fables of the Reconstruction" but not sure that's a starter set.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

I think Murmur and Reckoning make a great starter set. They're a band you need to follow their progress from the beginning, I think, or maybe it's just because that's how they were fro me

After that. Lifes Rich Pageant, Document, Green, Out of Time would be my picks. I like Fables also, but it's a bit dark, and I guess Dead Letter Office includes Chronic Town now.

I'll add those to the next Amazon order. I have to admit that I didn't hear of R.E.M until "Losing My Religion" came on MTV... :o

Also, you needn't be ashamed of this. It's a good number, if perhaps a bit overplayed.

My first real exposure to them was after I learned that Alton Brown served as Director of Photography on the video for "The One I Love". Athens, GA is a small world. :p

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

It's Christmas, but I'm not listening to Christmas music. Instead...

Keane- "Under the Iron Sea"
Arcade Fire- "Reflektor"
Amy Winehouse- "Back to Black"
She Wants Revenge- self-titled
The National- self-titled
Cloud Cult- "Love"

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

"Plans"- Death Cab
"Codes and Keys"- Death Cab
"Origin of Symmetry"- Muse
"This is Forever"- She Wants Revenge
"Valleyheart"- She Wants Revenge
"Boxer"- The National

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

I ran to Muse today. It's easy to run up a hill multiple times hearing the live version of "Newborn."

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

Radiohead- "Hail to the Thief"
Radiohead- "Kid A"
Radiohead- "In Rainbows"
Fireflight- "Unbreakable"
Fireflight- "For Those Who Wait"
Oasis- "Definitely Maybe"

And in the car, I was driving today with "The Next Episode" by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg playing at high volume.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

The Garden State Soundtrack. Kind of a "who's who" in indie music for the year 2004.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

Hendrix, Electric Ladyland
The Cult, Love
Metallica, Master of Puppets
The Doors, Strange Days
David Lee Roth, Eat 'Em and Smile

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

My dad told me that my music was "too loud" and "it was garbage."

Just like his parents told him. I will probably tell my probable future kids the same thing.

We're so loud and, incoherent!
Boy this oughta, bug your parents!
Yeah!

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

If it's too loud, you're too old.

Remember seeing something somewhere, that said:

Just think, at some point in time, someone's great-grandparents, in their 80s or 90s, are gonna be boppin' to some gangsta rap or headbanging to some speed metal. And that person will be so confused.

I was never a Britney Spears fan, but I remember as far back as 2000 or so, my peers joking about her being played on the oldies station in 30 years.
