Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

Went to a fantastic show last night and saw Toad The Wet Sprocket and Rusted Root.... Made me feel like I was 20-something again.

I love that so many of these bands are getting back together and doing summer tours.

Out of curiosity, has anyone bothered to tell Alanis that everything in her song "Ironic" is not, in fact, ironic? A black fly in your Chardonnay is unfortunate, yes, but there is no irony there.

Since the day it was released, man. You're about 20 years too late.

I was bummed that we were busy and unable to go to this. My hubs and I both like these bands.
I'm still wondering why women jam to Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina." He drugs their drinks to get some. Just sayin'.......
I can't stand that song and it doesn't even have to do with the lyrics, I just find it irritating.

Loc'ed After Dark and Cheeba Cheeba are better songs, for sure.

I don't think he's drugging the women's drinks, rather putting it in his own. He gave fed it to his dog and then all the female dogs in the neighborhood show up at his house for the funky cold medina. It's a love potion - magic.

Heavy implications here:

I went up to this girl, she said, "Hi, my name is Sheena"
I thought she'd be good to go with a little Funky Cold Medina
She said, "I'd like a drink," I said, "Ehm - ok, I'll go get it"
Then a couple sips she cold licked her lips, and I knew that she was with it

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's referring to his own charisma and not a drug.

Geto Boys: D-mn it Feels Good To Be A Gangsta

It's on my workout mix.

Never was really into this song when it came out/was in Office Space, but it grew on me over the years.

As far as pump-up/workout/pregame music, I stick to stuff that is amped up and kicks you in the arse. Punk, White Zombie-type stuff, old Metallica, etc.

Listened to the 3 Pearl Jam shows I'd been to on official bootleg. Now working my way through their discography chronologically.

OK, this is more audio than music, but I need some confirmation bias.

Listen to this video

And then listen to this one.

Can you hear a difference? And if so, which do you think is better?

If you're listening on a laptop or tablet, it'll probably be tough, with their crappy speakers, but if you're on a desktop with decent speakers you might.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 3: They Heard Me Singing

Just got this the other day straight from Backstreets.com, a live show from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, 4th of July a few years ago, an outdoor show at the Stone Pony. Playing the entire Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul album, Men Without Women.

Now you guys will know Steve van Zandt as Springsteen's longtime guitar player, and Silvio on The Sopranos, but before all that, he was the guitar player and songwriter for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. He wrote much of their first three albums before leaving to go full-time with Springsteen. He also formed his own band in the mid-80's, the Disciples of Soul, and Men Without Women was their first album. And a great album it was, an overlooked gem from the 80's. A great throwback to that 60's r&b/soul sound that he grew up listening to.

This is a better show than the Springsteen show I saw a few weeks ago.
