VH1C recently aired The Who Live at Kilburn (and might be repeating today?) which they filmed during the making of The Kids Are Alright. They stated it was the first time a live concert was filmed using as much equipment (audio and video) as they used and happened shortly before Keith Moon died. It is a great concert if you get the chance.

David Bowie - Low

In my experiences of sharing music I don't think a lot of people know much about Bowie beyond his hits, but this is one of my favorite Bowie records. It's pretty understated for Bowie but in all other aspects is pretty quintessential.

We had a little background music during our team meeting at work today - each member submitted a few suggestions ahead of time. I immediately picked out the songs submitted by our India employee, and they were actually pretty good - the heavy drum beat helped carry them a lot. The other BA threw in Louis Armstrong "Wonderful World", which despite being cliche is a favorite of mine.

My team learned something about me, since I submitted two songs at different ends of the rock spectrum that were only a year apart - Chris Cornell's "Seasons" and Tesla's "Edison's Medicine". The boss threw in Tesla's "Changes" - I think we're getting along OK. ;) He also went with Sammy's version of "I've Done Everything For You".

The other guy my age submitted Led Zep and RHCP songs. So, I view this as proof that current radio rock/metal (with a few pointed exceptions) blows. :D

Christmas/Holiday Albums

I collect them and the more obscure, the better. Of course everybody's got albums by Elvis and Chuck Berry and the Very Special Christmas volumes, but what do you have that is out of the mainstream and is also good.

Some of my favorites are:

Crash Test Dummies - Jingle All the Way
Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna) - Christmas with Jorma
Bruce Cockburn - Christmas
John Prine - A John Prine Christmas

Sure, these are known artists, but I'm about the only person that I've ever seen having these titles. If you haven't heard Jingle Bells by Crash Test Dummies, you haven't lived a full life. :)


Some other albums that I really like are:

John Denver - Rocky Mountain Christmas (probably my favorite all time)
John Denver & the Muppets - A Christmas Together
A Very Special Christmas Vol 1


Of course I have the titles by, Snoop (not something to play when Grandma is over), Slade, Barenaked Ladies, Shawn Colvin, Weezer, Reliant K, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet etc.



Anyone else?

Neil Diamond has a good Christmas album, and I'm especially fond of the South Park Christmas (titled Mr. Hanky's Christmas Classics).
