What's the best of their albums since reuniting? I think the only thing I've heard from them is Stormy Weather off Siberia, which sounded great, if a bit tame, and maybe one or two other tracks.

SS would probably have a better handle on this.

I've only picked up the reunion albums in the past couple of years.


I don't like Evergreen so much although there are some good tracks. Siberia is the most solid and I also really like Flowers.

I'm a fan from back in the day and lost touch after Lips Like Sugar (although I actually like that song and love the album). Just went a different direction with my music in the late 90s.

I actually do like Evergreen, but I think Flowers and Siberia are just a cut above. Actually now that I think about it Fountain is pretty decent, I don't know What Are You...

INXS (:p) - Playlist that would flow much like a Kick Tour show would have.

Songs from Shabooh through Kick (the albums that I like from them).


Used to like them a bit and saw two shows in 88 and they were really good.

And I really liked R.E.M's "Out of Time." It's a little better than Automatic...

Back to the Echo post reunion question...

Having those albums on pretty regular rotation over the weekend I can say for sure that my favorite is Flowers, fwiw.

Really like some of the guitar work and the songs are mostly well-crafted.


One of my gripes with post reunion Echo is the use of horns and orchestral backing. Really hate that stuff, at least with this band. They've always been about McCulloch & Sergeant (especially) to me and I always think that the horns etc are taking up space that could be better filled.

I can't recall any of this on Flowers.

Just love some of Sergeant's work and it's what sets the band apart from others with a similar lead singer type.

Now doing Dire Straights' first album.

Haven't listened to this for a couple of years, but it's a classic and I still appreciate it.

They've always done this though. The Cutter had huge horns on it, and as Ian would say, the greatest song ever written, The Killing Moon had what sounded like pretty much an entire orchestra on it. I like it.

I get that, but the new songs seem cheesy/weak/soft because of it. Killing Moon still feels "alternative."

Can't explain, you'll just have to hear for yourself.

Who knows, maybe you'll like it in the new songs.

I don't.

Oh, I know. The song Stormy Weather off Siberia, which I do love, has a typical Will Sargeant solo, echoing a bunch of his older guitar work, but at the same time, it seems tame and kinda passionless, all the danger and mystery of their earlier work is missing.

It's a shame McCulloch has destroyed his voice with too many whiskeys and smokes. One of the truly unique and original vocalists of the modern rock era, blessed to have an instrument like he had. And now it's just a raspy croak. I saw them maybe ten years ago and he did a great job compensating, but when I saw them again a few years ago, his voice was totally shot, and it didn't seem he was too interested in being there. Could have been late in a tour or something, but he wasn't in good form.

Does anyone know of good (read: clean) places to download albums or CDs that are out of print? I've been looking for a specific CD for a while now, but it's out of print, and people want some $80+ for a used copy. I'm not paying that for a CD that I've never heard before. If you'd rather not post it here, feel free to email me or submit through rep, should you like. Thanks.

depends on what you want, I've found several out-of-print cd's by touch & go bands and others just off of amazon and discogs, though, some did indeed break the $20-30 threshold.

have you tried the respective record labels first?
