Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

The Replacements just got nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Never in my wildest imagination would I ever think this would happen. Doubt they make it in, but just to be nominated says enough.

Rufus - The Replacements will be in immediately as will be the case with Nirvana. They're critical darlings and that matters big time.

How the hell Link Wray is still not in the hall if pretty **** baffling.

This pretty much sums up the RRHoF. Even the rap groups get seemingly masturbatory respect in the "rock" HoF.

My ballot, if it counted for sh*t:

Nirvana
The Meters
Kiss
The Replacements
Linda Ronstadt

IMO hip hop groups deserve equal consideration but in terms of history they've only been around since the late 70's (meaning the genre has been around since then) so I'd definitely see the argument to get the people like Link Wray in there prior to them, etc. that is if the argument is why these newer groups are in or considered vs. older bands or musicians...

my vote would be: Nirvana, The Replacements, Link Wray, The Zombies and N.W.A (this band here was the hip hop equivalent to Slayer IMO!)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

I like the Replacements (certainly not as much as some around here) and Nirvana a lot and believe that their influence on the music and musicians that followed them was greater than their own fame/success and talent.

That said, I can't understand why Kiss is not already in a rock 'n' roll hall of fame. They ruled the world for a good amount of time in the 70s and have endured since then.

Kiss needs to top the ballot and to be honest, Yes should be in as well.

Not saying that the Replacements and Nirvana shouldn't be in, but those other two endured far longer and have been pretty darn fame-ous along the way.

N.W.A. should probably get in at some point too. They shook things up just a smidge, no? ;)

The way the Hall works though, Chic will be the headliner and the others won't make it.

That was my ballot, except for Peter Gabriel instead of Kiss, and hall and Oates in place of Ronstadt.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

A friend of mine burned a bunch of REM for me. I got, in no particular order:

Out of Time
Collapse Into Now
Monster
Document
Reveal
Accelerate

He also gave me "High Violet" by the National, "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire, and replaced all my Interpol CDs. So I got new copies of Turn on the Bright Lights, Antics, and Our Love to Admire.

Wonderful!!

Right now the latest from the Black Angels, Indigo Meadow. I think they've branched out quite a bit more here without losing their signature sound. Wonderful and one of the few records I've bought the past 12 months that didn't require a 2nd listen to be convinced.

I really want to add more Cloud Cult to my collection. I've seen them perform live before; they have such energy and passion for playing, and it comes through in their music.

Back up your files!

After a couple years of winging it, I finally backed up my files. Part of it was prudence, the other part was that my 1tb drive was nearly full and I wanted to go to a 2tb.

Well, I got everything copied except for about 10 folders in Y and Z and the old drive died. Nada, nothing, zilch. Dead.

I lost a couple of Yes titles and the Zombies. Luckily I still have most of those on CD (haven't sold them yet).

I would have been devastated. Seriously.

Back up your files!

Pink Floyd - 9/13/94 Torino, Italy

Soundboard from great tour. Wish I had seen this more than once. Who knew they'd never tour again? :(

EDIT: **** this is great! Haven't listened to Floyd in a bit.

EDIT 2: FARKING EPIC!! I believe the siding on my house may have melted during David's Comfortably Numb solo. :D

The Young Fresh Fellows - The Men Who Loved Music

Hilarious, as always. $9.99 on iTunes, but you get 22 tracks for that price. Highlights are "TV Dream", "When the Girls Get Here", "Amy Grant", "Hank, Karen and Elvis", "Where the Hell Did They Go?", and "Beer Money".
