Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Peace - In Love

Debut album from English indie band who are compared (in sound) to Foals, Vampire Weekend, etc..

I don't hear that at all. Remind me a lot more of the Verve. Good stuff for sure. If you like the Verve, you might want to check these guys out.

Next up is Metallica - Through the Never

Thought their performance of For whom the Bell Tolls on Colbert last night was outstanding, so I'm really looking forward to hearing this new live album.

Here's the Colbert performance...

Moving on...

The Replacements - 9/21/13 Denver

Not quite as nice a recording as the Boston show, but another fun listen. The Hootenanny encore is a complete train wreck - as to be expected - with a Detroit Rock City thrown in. :)

EDIT: Encore was just awful... and perfect. Send everyone home with a giant FU... in a good way. :)

She Wants Revenge: Valleyheart
She Wants Revenge: This is Forever

Compared to This is Forever, Valleyheart is downright positive. This is Forever was an extended rant against an ex-lover.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

drivin' 'n' cryin' - 11/23/90 Atlanta

Soundboard of the band in their prime, such as it was. Kevn Kinney opens with solo stuff.

I saw them (front row - on the rail) the following summer and it was a blast.

What I'm listening to can be found here with a free download...

EDIT:

Now hearing another show that y'all can grab from the Archive if you choose...

Blind Melon - 9/12/95 Vancouver

Beautiful soundboard recording. Shannon would be dead 6 weeks later... :(

Alice in Chains cover of "Queen of the Rodeo".

I like how it's mostly a blues-style cover, but has a couple of hardcore-ish sections.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

wow, I try to keep up w/new music and new bands but the baffling thing to me with regard to some of the newer bands is the whole pretentious soulless disco/dance (see Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, LCD Soundsystem, Sleigh Bells, Dan Deacon) type nonsense. Enter Arcade Fire, at one point a very good band (see Funeral or Neon Bible) now? not so much, sounds like how Some Kind of Monsters feels

but never fear, there's an antidote to the bull****:

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Was looking through the hard drive and realized that I had a crap-ton of concerts that I've downloaded that were still awaiting expanding and a dropping into iTunes. So much music comes into our house from me (mostly), my boy (a bunch) and the wife, that sometimes things get lost in the shuffle.

So, of the 20 or so new shows that I have to check out, I started today with:

Robert Plant - 11/9/93 Milwaukee

Wow, what a great show and an excellent audience recording. Why I haven't gone to see him yet is baffling coz I love the solo shows that I have of his, spanning his career.

Next up a really cool find...

U2 - 4/9/81 @ Uncle Sam's (would become First Ave.) in Minneapolis

Incredible audience recording. Stealth recording from 32 years ago sounding this good? Not too often.

BTW, all of these shows that I remark about on here are readily available to anyone who's interested. I get most from sharing sites that specialize in live recordings - not to be confused with sites like the Bay.

These sharing sites don't allow any official releases to be posted.

I've loved and attempted to collect concert recordings since the early 80s and I'm amazed at how connected that community has become. Such a great thing for a (live) music addict like me.

Even 10 years ago, I'd have never guessed that I could have this incredible collection. 30 years ago? I'd have sharted myself! :)

Earlier...

Beck - 3/10/00 Zurich

Great show and he clearly had a great backup band.

Now...

Wilco - 10/15/12 Barcelona

Sweet FM broadcast. Band jams quite a bit more than I'd have expected.

Took me a long time (years) to get into Wilco and now they're in the regular rotation (which means I listen to them at least monthly).

I liked Son Volt immediately (after Uncle Tupelo's demise) and that has faded while my appreciation for Tweedy has steadily grown. Started with the Mermaid Ave. album and was enhanced by his work with Golden Smog and then I started to explore their catalogue more.

I really like em live too.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

The new Alter Bridge record is growing on me. Didn't sound as strong as AB III on the first pass, but this is definitely a heavier album than any of the previous three - quite a bit of obvious thrash influence at times, and fewer slick, radio-ready tracks. There are only two blatant ballads on Fortress, and the first one is a pretty big builder despite the radio choruses. Seems that Tremonti's solo album had a significant effect on all of them.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Doing the Jam Band thing the past couple of days.

Yesterday did some String Cheese Incident shows from 2006.

Today:

Grateful Dead - 7/18/89 & 7/19/89 Alpine Valley

:)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Still enjoying the Dead...

10/8/89 & 10/9/89 - Hampton Coliseum

:)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Rush - Vapor Trails re-mix. holy **** this is really good. Definitely worth the $30 for 180-gram vinyl

listening to Nirvana's In Utero 2013 mix....I've got to do a side by side, this isn't as different sounding to my ears as I was led to believe it would/could be

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Bingeing hard on U2 today...

10/25/09 Rose Bowl - audio rip from the official dvd

10/25/01 Madison Square Garden (soundboard) - poignant performance in NYC following 9/11

12/30/89 Dublin (FM) - Lovetown Tour with B.B. King & Band. At one point Bono says that they will be going away for a while after these shows to "Dream the whole thing up again." No doubt - a few years later we'd have Achtung Baby and the Fly.

Now hearing...

9/18/87 Boston Garden (soundboard) - audio recording for the Rattle & Hum movie that was released by Wolfgang's Vault

For those who are unaware, this is an official site where you can stream and purchase (most are $5 I believe) concerts that they have the rights to. Worth a browse if live shows are your thing.

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/

EDIT:

Time for one more...

3/24/83 - Tiffany's in Glasgow (FM) - Lots of exuberance and lots of flubs. Both Edge & Bono.

Did some Robert Plant earlier... Dreamland & Mighty Rearranger

Both great solo albums of his.

Now doing my Zeppelin playlist from the remasters box set.

Right on, Friday!

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Listening to my Randy Houser station on the fiance's Pandora. Its been pretty dang solid. Heard some songs I hadn't heard before that were pretty good, including a new Florida-Georgia line, but I'm still not sure about them, they're pretty **** pop, don't like that.

Probably going to download some Blackberry Smoke, and switch over to that this afternoon. Since I'm excited about getting tickets to their concerts early next year.

Also, Church's first single from his next album hits radio next Tuesday. Hoooo boy.
