USCHO Dead Pool

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I'm In. I pick Zsa Zsa Gabor. :D :D

I picked Terrell Owens on our last pool and came *thisclose* to getting an awful lot of points.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

Count me in.

Will there be an "obscurity" rule ? I mean, someone could choose their neighbor who just came home from hospice and was given last rites...

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

Wow, alot of interest.

Instead of actually doing a draft, with this many people we would probably be better off all putting together a list of 20 famous (internationally, nationally, locally) people. I was thinking a very simple kind of scoring, 3pts if the person is <40, 2 pts for 41-65, 1 point for >65, and one bonus point if person is only on your list. If anyone has objections, post them. The picks must be famous people, so no neighbors or anything like that. Even local people like if you live in Fargo and you pick the local Fargo sportscaster, that would count. Maybe we should just say off the bat that Zsa Zsa is out, because at this point you'd be dumb to not have her on your list, if she even makes it until we make the picks.

I think we should give people another day to sign up, so tomorrow morning I'll post a final list of participants.

So far these are the posters who are in:

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

How should we submit our lists, if we don't do this as a draft?

Obviously, if we do it here, the last person to post their list has the luxury of seeing everyone else's list first.

Haven't figured that out yet.

If people think that a draft would work with this many people, we can try it. How many woud each poster pick? We have 22-24 people in already, if we have 20 picks per poster that would be over 400 people, can we think of that many? Or cut it down to 10 picks per poster?

Either that or we do the list submittal idea, get someone else to accept lists via e-mail and have him/her post them when we're done.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I think it would be more fun if it were like a draft, so that no person is on more than one list. If everyone thinks that 10 picks per team works well, we can just go with that, with however many posters end up signing up. I don't think we'll get more than 30 participants, so that would be 300 picks. This draft might take a little while, I wonder how many people on the lists will die while we're still drafting! :p

I also like the idea of a draft, also because it'll allow for creativity and simplicity (since only one person gets points when someone dies).

Maybe we should have a live draft event online and make participation contingent on attendance?

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

What time would we be doing a draft? Some people have different work schedules and it would be hard to co-ordinate a draft for that many people. Just trying to think of how to get the most people at the same time with the fewest conflicts.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I was going to try to get around the schedules thing by doing it in the thread, so when it was your turn, just make a post. If it takes 30 seconds to make your pick, great, if it takes a couple hours, no big deal. The live draft would be easier, on something like AIM, I just don't know how many people would be able to make it. If we get 10-16 people we should be good to go, and if we have around 10, then we could pick 20 each.

Re: USCHO Dead Pool

I kind of like the list idea better. With a draft it's going to be impossible to get everyone. Plus things come up. My two cents.
