USCHO Cooks: Maybe We Can Beat Bobby Flay

Re: USCHO Cooks: Maybe We Can Beat Bobby Flay

Tomorrow I’m doing a dress rehearsal of my super bowl party foods with the exception of the wings. Making sure they don’t need any tweaks.

You have a Super Bowl party?

I am thinking I'm going to go to a sports bar, and party my *** off, and hopefully burn some couches after the purple bring home the 'chip.

I'm going bowling. 49 cents a lane...

Tonight, I'll make a crunchy peanut butter and chocolate chip muffin, pumpkin spice biscotti, and olive burgers.

Somewhat cooking related, I'm so glad Pinterest added the names back of who pinned things on the mobile app.

I have one Meyer lemon on my lemon tree. I'm thinking Lemon Madeleines (just bought a pan). Still haven't baked much since Christmas, although I made a peach berry slab pie last week in an effort to use up some of the fruit in my freezer. I also baked bread for the first time since October (since I had 10 loaves of bread in my freezer that are finally gone).

Re: USCHO Cooks: Maybe We Can Beat Bobby Flay

I just got a baking cookbook from the library, and the author puts balsamic vinegar in half his recipes. And oh, the herbs. Stop trying to savory my sweet. We get it, you’re oh-so-trendy.

Edit: lemon matcha yeasted waffles with rosemary maple syrup. Seriously?

Very interesting piece about AB, even though it's a year and a half old.

Interesting article. I saw him on this tour back in November and enjoyed it quite a bit. He had people tweet him prior to the show with his food questions and he actually featured tcbg and me. He was funny, cutting, and smart during the whole show. I have Tivo-ed every episode of Good Eats that I definitely use for reference. We got 2 copies of the book (they came with our VIP tickets to the show). I haven't cooked much from it yet, but I have it on the same shelf as my Bittman books (How to Cook Everything and How to Cook Everything Vegetarian), and Joy of Cooking.

Since the gophers decided to not show up and it’s stupid to be on the roads, I decided to turn off the tv and phone, turn on some good music, make chicken-fried steak, a salad, and a heady IPA.

I haven’t had a meal like that in a long time. No distractions, pure comfort food. Nights like this are good for the soul.

Would anyone notice if I didn’t put a bay leaf in soup? I feel like the bay leaf industry is putting one over on us.

Those dried bay leaves that have sat in your kitchen cupboard since 2010? Probably not.

Fresh bay leaves are actually heavenly. But yeah, anything old is nothing but false promises, and most store spices are shipped to the store old.

Paprika is always the first one to go stale, unless it's the smoked variety. Bay leaves, not far behind.

So because I'm a complete culture whore I got some of the Szechuan sauce.

NPB, tastes more like teriyaki than anything.

Visited Marquette this past weekend. Ate divinely.

Authentic gyro with waffle fries at Vango's.
Great omelettes at Donckers
A wonderful sandwich at Portside Inn
Butternut squash ravioli and huge garlic bread at Casa Calabria

Dr. Mrs. just made the best green curry chicken with rice I have ever tasted.

While that is some good trolling, I still don't think that looks like BBQ I'd want to eat.

Oh believe me, that brisket should be a crime. Where's the d@mn smoke ring? Who serves whole, unsliced pickles with BBQ?

Also, drinking from a Ball Mason jar got old 5 years ago and needs to stop, especially outside of the Deep South. Fcking hipsters ruin everything.
