USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

The way that free agency is done in this league needs a major overhaul. There is such a huge advantage to people on the east coast. I'm not sure why there isn't a waiver wire of sorts where people can submit prospective claims that process at a certain time, and priority is given to the inverse order of league standing.

I made 2 free agent moves last Saturday morning, basically to replace non performing players. Those 2 players I picked up were not on my active roster last weekend. I was away on vacation and it was a small window of opportunity for me to look at my roster. I do see your point though.

How about free agent moves are only allowed Monday through Thursday or something like that?

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

FWIW... I don't usually drop a guy who's team has an 'off day' in order to take advantage of another guy's team playing that day, unless I intended on replacing the player anyway. I see that some GM's will do so... ie., drop a player and then replace him the next day.
Be careful... I'm watching and you may lose your stud. ;)

I don't think anyone is going to be dropping Bjugstad to pick up Canisius's 3 line right wing for a Tuesday game. :p

Correction... I did insert Laliberte onto my roster last Saturday. He got 1 point. If I tie with someone at the end of the regular season, I will relinquish the point. :)

At this point, there really isn't much that can be done about it, unless we have some sort of informal gentleman's agreement. I was more so voicing concern, in hopes for changes to be made for upcoming seasons. Another option would be to have an acquisition limit, or tie acquisitions to points (i.e. for each acquisition that you make, it costs x league points).

As for only allowing moves Monday-Thursday, that would work, but you would need to implement a waiver wire. That way, person x who lives in Hawaii (theoretically) can submit their waiver wire claim for player A at any point between Friday and say Monday at 7:00am Eastern. Come Monday at 7:00am, if nobody else has put in a claim, Player A goes to person x. If another GM has put in a claim, whoever is lower in the league standings will get the player. If two teams are tied, there would need to be some sort of tie-breaker (draft position?). After Monday, it could be a 24 hour window (i.e. you can put in waiver claims anytime between 7:01am Monday and 7:00am Tuesday, and the same process is used Tuesday morning). This way, nobody is disadvantaged/advantaged by being in a certain time zone.

Again, these are all just ideas for how to improve the fantasy league in upcoming seasons.

You shouldn't be punished for playing the game better than someone else. I recommend keeping the point. :p:D:D

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

I'm not sure how difficult a waiver type system would be to implement on the website side of things. That would be a question better left for zudnic I would guess.

It could be easier to simply push back the acquisition time to something that is reasonable for all time zones. Say 3pm eastern or something.

That would be better, but I would still like to see a waiver wire implemented. Otherwise, the different time just gives different people (theoretically) the advantage. If a waiver wire is impossible to do from a website perspective, then I would like to see an acquisition limit or fee, perhaps coupled with a different acquisition time. Again, I'm not suggesting anything be done for this season...just something to think about for the offseason.

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

We may have someone interested in taking over the 'Open Slot' team. Is that something that can be done bigblue?
I'm going to have him post here... he's a Dartmouth fan... ChinaHockey is his handle. Saw his conversation with FlagDude at the Dartmouth thread and said he may be interested in playing.

Yeah, it should be possible, as long as I can remember the password I used for it. :p

Goaltenders are killing me. They went -14 over the weekend.
For the season, my goalies have contributed a whopping 7 points to the cause.

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

I need a refresher on the Playoffs... big_blue, shirtless, Zudnic?
Playoffs start next weekend?
1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.
You can snipe one player from the team you defeated, or is it 2?
Any other details?

I seem to remember, but don't quote me on it, that last year we had a maximum of 4 moves (adds/drops). 2 of those could be players picked up from the defeated team. You could move players from bench/active as much as you wanted.

This is correct.

I remember seeing on facebook that the playoffs start next week (final weekend of league championships). I believe that this is the last week of the regular season.

Re: USCHO-3 Fantasy College Hockey League, 2012-2013 Season

OK... here we go.

Playoffs:
Playoffs will be available via the League Home page and will only be visible to members of the league. Leagues must have at least eight teams in order for playoffs to operate. At noon the day the playoffs commence, teams will be seeded by total points. Playoffs operate on a weekly cycle, from noon to noon, but the final round encompasses two weeks to account for the one week waiting period before the Frozen Four. The top point earner in each head-to-head period will advance, and the winner will inherit the higher seed. There are three playoff rounds. Otherwise all game rules apply - individual leagues are encouraged to devise their own rules for disbursing players from eliminated teams, etc.

2013 Playoffs - Modified Roster Rules:
1. Unlimited moves between your Bench and Free Agents are allowed until noontime, Monday, 3/18, which is the start of the First Round. No further free agent moves are allowed until the second round.
2. First Round: Starts Monday, 3/18 at noon. Ends Monday, 3/25 at noon.
3. Second Round: Starts Monday, 3/25 at noon. Ends Monday, 4/1 at noon. Maximum of 4 Bench/Free Agent moves allowed, 2 of which can be snipes from the opponent's roster that you defeated in the previous round. Snipes must be taken BEFORE the start of the first game of the next round.
4. Final Round: Starts Monday, 4/1 at noon. Maximum of 4 Bench/Free Agent moves allowed, 2 of which can be snipes from the opponent's roster that you defeated in the previous round. Snipes must be taken BEFORE the start of the first game of the next round. Our FCH Champion will be crowned on Sunday, April 14th.
5. You may make unlimited moves between your Active Roster and Bench Players throughout the playoffs.

NOTE: Once a team is knocked out of the playoffs, their roster is frozen (except for the 2 allowed snipes) and the remaining players are not available as free agents.
