USA 2010 Olympic Team

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

Gomez and Drury will be the on the team barring injury, those two plus Kane and Parise are our best players. That roster is an epic fail waiting to happen.

Gomez is horrible this year and Drury hasn't played well since his injury. Parise, Kane, and Kessel are our top offensive players for sure.

Definition: cutting language: remarks that mean the opposite of what they seem to say and are intended to mock or deride ;)

You obviously didn't watch him in "action" against Miller and the Sabres last night. Talk about a tale of two different goalies.

Lyndman's goal (about 40 secs into the video) should get him nailed to the bench -- or sent down to the Marlies.

Your sarcasm taunt shall be thrown back in your face. :D

Drury's been pretty God-awful since going to the Rangers. He hasn't been passable in two, going on three, seasons.

He shouldn't make this team over any of the 12 you listed and of the others, the only one I'd take Drury over is maybe Tim Connolly but that's close. If Gionta and Booth are healthy and able to go, they're playing and starting.

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

I know absolutely nothing about international hockey and the selection process these teams go through...

But I was wondering if Antti Niemi would have any shot at playing for Finland... He has been very solid in net for the Blackhawks... The only thing that would hurt him is the number of starts...

In 9 games, he has 3 shutouts, a 1.76 GAA and a .927 Save Percentage...

Is this just a situation where he doesn't have enough ice time to realistically be considered?

Too many guys ahead of him.

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

Well Drury may be playing his way back on to the olympic team with his last few games. Perhaps he just wants my commentary in this thread to look really dumb.

Excelling on the penalty kill is one of the many attributes he can bring so there's still hope.

Brian Burke is waivering on the 12 forward 8 defensemen mix too. This could open up a spot for a 13th forward.

Paul Gaustad is also making a late push and even Gomez had 3 assists last night!

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

Tomorrow's the big day for the USA hopefuls. It sounds like they will go with 13 forwards and 7 defensemen. If so, I replace Goligoski with Gaustad.

Scoring lines:
Parise-Stastny-Kane
Ryan-Pavelski-Kessel

Grind line:
Malone-Kesler-Langenbrunner

Checking line:
Brown-Gaustad-Callahan/Backes

D:
Suter-Rafalski
Whitney-E. Johnson
Orpik-Komisarek
J.Johnson

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

Really not liking the Drury pick.

He's a big game player and he does all the little things. USA won't be leaning on him to be a focal point of the offense so I'm okay with the pick. His leadership and experience will be important.

Paul Martin is an interesting pick since he had a set back with his injury.

You've obviously missed his entire Rangers tenure. This big game player belief is a fallacy just some creation of the media.

Re: USA 2010 Olympic Team

Congrats to all the USA Olympic Team Guys, quite an honor.... especially love to see so many college names. :)

Disappointed the fans booed Kessel, not appropriate in this instance, IMHO, PLUS he wasn't even there, it was the poor nervous kid who took the brunt. Ouch :p

He hasn't been very good with the Rangers but neither has the team in general. Drury has never been the type of player that you look at to lead your team offensively. He wins faceoffs, kills penalties, blocks shots, and plays smart. He has scored many big goals in his career especially with Colorado. That is not a fallacy.

All-time playoff GWG:

NHL Leaders
Rank Player GWG
1. Brett Hull* 24
Wayne Gretzky* 24
3. Claude Lemieux 19
Joe Sakic 19
5. Mike Bossy* 17
Glenn Anderson* 17
Chris Drury 17

1) He hasn't been good for the Rangers is an understatement. Have you ever considered the possibility that the team isn't good in general partially because of his horrid play? Have you even watched Drury play on a regular basis for the Rangers? He doesn't back check, he doesn't pass well doesn't shoot well, and all he does well is play on the PK which is an embarrassment when he's being paid superstar money. He's leading the team in faceoff win percentage, so kudos for that. He also has not been a good shot blocker this year, often being unwilling to sacrifice his body.

2) Scoring big goals doesn't mean its a predictor of future success or that he's some sort of clutch demi-god. Chris Drury with the Avs was over-rated and the Rangers would kill for even that Chris Drury.

3) The Chris Drury types are applauded for the little things that improve the team, his supposedly great leadership and passing...well he hasn't improved the Rangers one bit.

4) There are plenty of Americans who have put up better seasons and deserve to be on this team more than Drury. Hopefully he takes advantage of this opportunity and shows he belongs.

Chris Drury was phenomenal with the Avs. The team started to fall apart right around the time he was traded.

No stat is a predictor of future success. The stats do prove that he is a very clutch player. Of the 7 players in NHL history with 17 or more playoff GWG, 5 are hall of famers. Drury and Claude Lemieux are the only two not in the hall. That is pretty impressive company to keep.

Drury is currently 2nd in blocked shots this season for all NHL forwards. Not a good shot blocker? Unwilling to sacrifice his body?
