US Open Tennis

Re: US Open Tennis

Why is not OK for a chair umpire to tell Roger Federer to be quiet when he is *****ing? And why does it matter if it was Federer or anyone else?

The umpire completely lost the plot in the fourth set tiebuster. Some idiot fan yells out on the serve and the umpire won't give a let and then lets Fed challenge which he is correct and then gives del potro another first serve anyway. The whole thing was ridiculous and was what really turned the match.

Re: US Open Tennis

I actually think he handled it well. I didn't have a problem with him letting Federer challenge after that long because he had to explain the call to Federer first. Then he gave the first serve back because it took so long to sort out the call. I still think it is ridiculous that the announcers thought that Federer can say whatever he wants to the chair because he is Federer. If you said anything like that to a baseball ump you'd be tossed from the game.

Re: US Open Tennis

Just when it was getting interesting, the Open that is, the rains came and dampened my enthusiasm. Trying to find the matches became a trial. Missed Serena's explosion/implosion the 1st time around and the Federer match entirely.

Maybe a roof.......

Re: US Open Tennis

Murray is probably Del Potro's worst matchup, so when he got knocked off by Cilic (they would've played in the quarters), Del Potro saw the opportunity and stormed right through the door. Good for him. 14-15 months ago, he was ranked in the 50s, I think.

Re: US Open Tennis

Is it just me or does Federer act with no class lately. It's almost always his failure. not the other guys success, He never seems sincere in congratulating the other player either.

He's very serious and rarely emotional, so when he gets POed during a match it makes him look like a *****. I also think there is some actual ego/arrogance on his part, just based on his 15 major titles.

He's just never been good at handling the media/PR side of things, and it's particularly apparent on those occasions when he actually loses a match.

Re: US Open Tennis

He didn't use to be like this. He used to be a gracious winner. His comments after beating Roddick at Wimbledon were pretty classless too.

I just think the fact that he has all those titles and is #1 on every pro's list of players they want to beat has made him arrogant and sour when he does lose. Everyone expects him to crush the field at every tournament he enters (unless he is playing Nadal), and he is at the point where he expects it now too.

It happens to many generational talents, regardless of the sport they play.
