US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Count Down to Sochi is on....Yesterday, the National Olympic committees of both my native country (In Europe) and current country of residence (Canada) trotted out the Olympic gear to be worn by their athletes on the occasion of T-100 days milestone.

The National Broadcaster in Canada, CBC, devoted at least 30 minutes to the Olympics during their main national broadcast yesterday. Ironicalle, Hockey was rarely mentioned, it was most about the "amateur sports" and issue and challenges that comes with it.

What I don't understand is why USA Hockey is incapable of producing a team jersey that isn't 'round-the-bend ugly. I collect international jerseys; at a lot of games I can be identified by my Mira Jalosuo Team Finland jersey. I'd love to have a Team USA jersey personalized with a Gopher on it but . . . geez, I can't bring myself to spend money on the unattractive uniforms they come up with.

Maybe by 2018 they'll have figured this design thing out.

Or perhaps there is no need to worry about it anymore in 2018 (The Rogge threat)

Or maybe there will be a vote to get rid of Rogge instead. One can always hope. Anyway, there will still be Worlds, so there will still be a need for a stylish sweater.

Agree, I was just kidding. Hoping for a competitive event in Sochi to put any doomsday thoughts to rest.

Anybody have any updates from their game against Finland at Middlebury College? It was a noon ET start, so it should be complete or nearly so. There has been nothing on the USAHockey or USAHockeyScores Twitter feeds.

Finland opened at a furious pace, pinned USA in their own zone quite a bit in the first period. Finland scored first but USA took over the game in the 2nd and 3rd, controlling play and scoring 5 unanswered goals to skate off with the 5-1 win. USA powerplay was very effective notching 2 goals in the 2nd frame. Team seems to be playing much better team hockey than vs. Canada early this month. Hilary Knight is fun to watch! Team hung out, talked with kids after the game...always a treat.

No one talking about four nations ?. US played Canada last night. Not a single comment on this board. Same deal on the Ontario Board.

Based on line score must have been a good game, 2-2 until a few minutes to go when a PP broke the tie.

Well, I'll add a few comments because I was there.

Surprised that MLam wasn't taking regular shifts in the 3rd period. In fact, I don't recall seeing her on the ice at all. Lyndsey Fry was paired with JLam and Annie Pankowski, and it showed up in the second USA goal, which was one of the prettiest passing plays I've ever seen.

Officiating (at least from my slanted American view) was questionable. Meghan Duggan got caught with a Canadian high-stick and there was no call. There were several earlier hits that were let go. The two US penalties that led to the go-ahead goal for Canada were both delay-of-game calls for putting the puck out of play from the defensive zone.

It looked like Jessie Vetter made the save on the goal, but apparently the puck was still loose and Natalie Spooner punched it in.

The U.S. has a 52-second power play late, but really couldn't get organized. If they got a shot on goal, it was only one.

I watched the game from the comfort of my cycle trainer. It was a pretty good game. but as you said, penalties hurt Team USA at the end, and if anyone watched the games, how about those final two calls?

On the first one, Bozek was clearing the puck, and it went into the bench. Not over the glass - into the bench. That is not my understanding of how the delay of game call is supposed to be ruled.

With Pucci's, the puck caromed off one of the officials and out. If it hits the official and then goes out of play is that delay of game? The neutral party was the last to touch the puck.

I don't care for the Delay of Game penalty anyway, but I like it even less if it is used that way. Anyone have an explanation for if / why those were legitimate calls?

A similar scenario where the puck was cleared into the bench area occurred in the Finland-Sweden game. The officials discussed whether or not the puck would have cleared the regular glass and decided the answer was "no", so no penalty was called.

I have no explanation for the call on Pucci. I didn't realize the puck hit an official.

I ask this question as I have not seen any information on it. Is Amanda Kessel in the USA lineup or does she have an injury keeping her out? It seems strange to not see her on the scoresheet.

Out apparently, though I was told she was likely to play last night.

One of the online announcers last night said that he had spoken to Amanda earlier, and she was recovering from an injury, but hoped to be back in the line up soon. It sounded like a "better safe than sorry" situation.

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

can't blame the loss against Finland on the officials
3-1 final
and they called delay of game on Finland 3 times, twice on Raty!
28 shots in 2nd period  now I know how MN Gopher opponents felt the last 4 years
58 saves by Raty, most were in close to her right side (stick side)

if you learn from losing, Team USA has a lock on gold at the Olympics :o
