US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

There are FOUR Sidney/ Sydney's on this roster!

Down to 3. Sydney daniels dropped due to injury - Fionna McKenna added. That does, however, make FOUR Chicago Mission girls on the team (FIVE if you count Sid Peters who played with the Mission her entire career until this year).

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Good news -- Team USA has announced their Women's National Team Winter Camp roster.

Bad news -- that announcement was broken by the University of Minnesota, not by USA Hockey.

The article is primarily about the 8 current and former Gophers participating at the camp, but does has links to the rosters of the two 18-member squads.

http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-hockey/spec-rel/122212aaa.html

There are also three games open to the public at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN: Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m.; Dec. 29 at 6:00 p.m.; and Dec. 31 at 8:45 a.m. (all times Central).

I also found a comprehensive schedule that includes the practices on the Schwan Super Rink web site: http://www.nscsports.org/news_article/show/205397

Where did you get that information? USA Hockey web site has a technical issue as it is not allowing the rosters to be opened.
The Star Tribune had a hockey blog entry that listed the full roster.

Just curious, how is Kelly Babstock playing for US? She is listed in her college bio as having been born in Ontario, and she previously played for Canada U18???
Your guess is as good as mine. Going back to the links provided in the University of Minnesota release...

2012 Winter Camp Blue Roster.pdf 2012 Winter Camp White Roster.pdf

... the Blue Roster lists Babstock as being from Hamden, Connecticut, which is just down the road from the Quinnipiac campus.

From the Quinny website:
Personal: Native of Mississauga, Ontario…Daughter of David and Donna Babstock…Has an older brother, Jeff Shattler and a younger brother, Jacob. She also has an older sister, Cindy Shattler and two younger sisters, Harmony and Shenoah…Brother Jeff plays professional lacrosse for the Calgary Roughnecks of the NLL…

Perhaps OnMaa can shed some light?

Me shed some light ?.....I don't know anything about this latest development, but it is a well known fact that Kelly has been snubbed several times in the past by the TC brass. She is native north american, and used to play for Northern Ontario in the aboriginal games. That means her family origin is from a reserve based in Northern Ontario. As a native North American, she can play/associate with either US or Canada. Ally Bero (former SLU player, and Native American) did something similar, playing for US U18 first and then switching to play for Team Ontario.

Personally, I hope she can make some inroads with this route. Great kid and fantastic hockey player.

In the third scrimmage (held earlier today), it was Team Blue 3, Team White 1. The aforementioned Ms. Babstock had two first-period goals for Team Blue, the second of which came on the power play. Vetter (Blue) and Schaus (White) started in goal and were replaced in the middle of the 2nd period by Rigsby (Blue) and McLaughlin (White). McLaughlin made a number of great saves to keep the score close, as the Blue team controlled a lot of the play. Kelley Steadman scored for the White team on a tic-tac-toe passing play to make it 2-1 late in the 2nd, but a shot by Lee Stecklein in the third period got past a heavily-screened McLaughlin just inside of the right post to make it 3-1.

The play seemed energetic but quite aggressive, bordering on chippy, as the ladies were trying to display their skills for the coaches. Katie Stone and two of her assistants were standing by me in the stands, evaluating the play.

Interestingly enough, one player for each team was not dressed. For Team Blue, it was MLam. I couldn't tell who was out for Team White (we didn't have lineup sheets that gave jersey numbers).

Oh, and for Eeyore -- Amanda Kessel got stoned by Rigsby on a mini-breakaway. ;)

Does anyone know what happened in the first two scrimmages?

I saw a Facebook post that said the Blue team won the first scrimmage and the second game went to a shootout with the White team winning, but I have not heard any details.

Kelly is a full status Native American which would allow here to play for either US or Canada. Kelly tried out for Team Canada White but was not selected to the team. At the time she was probably the best player in Ontario if not the country. Then even after being rookie of the year in her freshman year she was still passed over by team Canada. Nothing to do with Hockey ability she just has an aversion to paperwork.

She is a great kid and I hope she makes the US team.

Because everybody knows that's obviously the most critical aspect of being an impact player. Idiots.

No doubt also explains how Hockey Canada (and for that matter Hockey USA) picks its coaches and evaluators: much better at paperwork and behind the scenes shenanigans than at the game itself.

Team Canada White ?. Did not know that there was such an entity. Is there more than one Team Canada ?.

Clearly did not proof read the post. Thanks for pointing it out. Did the extra word cause you to not understand what was said?

Your overall message was loud and clear. Agree 100% with your sentiments. My response post was to poke some fun at the minor faux pas.;) It was TIC all the way. :D

I was at the game a few years ago when she stole the show when the rest of the PW 92's beat the TC 92's.
