A new law making it illegal to pay men more than women has taken effect in Iceland.

The legislation, which came into force on Monday, the first day of 2018, makes Iceland the first country in the world to legalise equal pay between men and women.

Under the new rules, companies and government agencies employing at least 25 people will have to obtain government certification of their equal-pay policies.

Those that fail to prove pay parity will face fines.

My wager is this: men's pay won't be directly cut as women's pay will be increased to match. Any future wage gains will be muted, though not entirely eliminated, until the companies get to a point where they think they're back on track from prior to the law being enacted.

It will be a combination of the two, I'd guess. It seems safe to assume that males have profited from lower pay to females. Or not . . .

Don't we have a variety of equal pay laws at the state and federal level already here in the U.S.?

Meh. We will never know what's true and what was exaggerated or just flat out made up by the governments who are trying to get him. There are entire departments at each major nation spy service working 24/7 to slime the guy.

He's a disappointment, yeah, but put the Virgin Mary in that position and they'd gin up stories about her to make your hair curl. He's a huge threat to some extremely bad actors.
