This would be the THIRD time Russia has invaded a country during an Olympics held in China. They invaded Georgia in 08. And Ukraine in 2014. Guess its a great time to invade when the world is celebrating peace?

2014 Olympics were in Sochi Russia.

So if pooty does invade, I really hope biden does the right thing and seize literally everything we can. Hard pressure on Europe to agree to kick them off SWIFT.

Germany is going to be hard to convince. Lots of bank loans tied up and lots of energy that comes from Russia. Not sure what the nordics have for natural gas but between the them and us I'm sure we could make up a lot. Maybe not.

either way. Put the economic screws to Russia and hard.

Apparently in Russian state media, the US is actively occupying Ukraine and Russia will "liberate" Ukraine.

Putin actually has a problem because his propaganda has been working overtime for years saying there is no such thing as Ukrainian and that they are Russian brothers, and now he's going to tell 100 tank brigades go kill 50,000 "Russians."

As I saw on TikTok: it's not that the Dems bring a knife to a gunfight. It's that the Dems bring a knife to a knife fight where the opponent has brought guns and the Dems are scared that a couple knife fight purists will complain about the Dems not bringing a knife.

"Tragically, the Western leaders and diplomats who are right now trying to stave off a Russian invasion of Ukraine still think they live in a world where rules matter, where diplomatic protocol is useful, where polite speech is valued."

Putin = GQP terrorists.
Every western leader negotiating = Democrats thinking they can compromise.

Pretty much. The only thing authoritarians like Putin and the GOP understand is constraint. You have to be consistent and credible and force them to see there is no win in their aggression, or they will attack.

I was wondering if an emergency meeting of NATO could induct Ukraine in 5 minutes.

But, that ship has sailed, apparently.

We don’t have the stomach for war, anyway, which NATO membership for Ukraine would require. Not just as we’re coming out of the pandemic and 37% of our people think authoritarianism in general and Putin in particular are A-OK. The best we can do for Ukraine is the sanction beat down that we’re promising, but that hurts the west, too, so we’ll see how long Germany can be kept in the fold. Trade, by definition, helps both parties (else one of them would decline the transaction), so maintaining the sanctions for the long haul will require sacrifice, too - just not as much as brining home thousands of body bags.

Lol the nato admission wouldn't happen in a million years now. It's the equivalent to firing the first shot of WWIII.

It would drag everyone into the fight. Not gonna happen.

Pretty much.

it's why we're letting the boomer take his toy back. We're not going to send tens of thousands of young men to die thousands of miles away from home. Fuck that. It's unsurprising that fishy thinks it's a good idea.
