US Foreign Policy 3.0: We're The Mets of International Diplomacy

Ukrainian teens are posting tik toks and other short videos of them going about their lives while stuck inside or in shelters, and all their modest efforts to keep having fun and doing normal things, while mocking the Russian army and Putin and saying they will never crush their spirit. The tag they are posting under is "Life During Wartime."

So much for "today's kids are soft and fragile." Human beings -- the very worst and very best, playing out in front of us.

On purpose we didn't. Not a chance.

I see. So it's okay if you just indiscriminately bomb a city, rather than target a hospital?

I'll keep that in mind next time I lose a loved one that way.

The aggressor in a war is a monster. Full stop.

Its more than you think...and the reason we whine is because those types are what a lot of people/voters believe the Left is truly about. They are the default face of it because they are the loudest. They say the dumbest things, they do even dumber things and they suck the air out of the entire Left agenda by doing it. Part of that is because we don't shut them up like we should. Thankfully, in some places, that seems to be changing lets just hope it isn't too late...

Basically, these are the sort of airheaded nutrolls who think people join the military because they have bloodlust and just want to kill other people. That's an actual quote from a dipsh*t friend of my fiance, and she made sure to let this friend know how wrong and stupid that thought was. BTW, this same dipsh*t friend has an assault charge on her record because she shoved some counter-protester at an event who got in her face and goaded her, getting the exact result they wanted to feed the "violent left" narrative.

If there were any borschtbots left on Twitter, they would be proud of your whataboutism here.

So they have ceased operating since the invasion began?

I find that interesting since I figured the base of operations for them would be well inside of Russia, likely in a major city. Russia still has power, so I don't really get why pulling the plug on them lends any hand to the actual invasion of Ukraine.

It's way less. It's pretty frigging hilarious.

Test it...go on Twitter at like midnight and see what is trending. Before the war it was a lot of anti Biden stuff and so on. Now not so much.

reddit definitely has a lower bot presence, for Russia and most glaringly for conservatives.

I swear 90% of "conservative" traffic on social media is Russian bots trying to cripple the US.

The terrible grammar makes sense now.

Isn't it starting to seem like Putin is now flat out daring the West to do this so he can have his war? Like he read the tea leaves and realized Ukraine won't be enough of a win after all of this and now he needs the whole megillah? I mean he isn't even trying to hide his atrocities...

The only way Putin saves his azz out of this whole thing is if this becomes a Russia vs. NATO conflict. NATO steps in, and he's got all of Russia having his back against western aggression.

Anything less, and he may take Ukraine, and it may be his little vassal state for a while. But he and Russia are toast in the long run.

Meanwhile, Russian teens, and 20's, who have had relative prosperity and easy living their entire lives, are getting a taste of what life was like for their parents and grandparents in the old USSR and in the 90's, post USSR dissolution.

No cable tv, no internet, no Mickey D's and Coca Cola, no nothing but food and money shortages, and a life of bleak despair.

It ain't gonna go over too well with them.

I think what Kepler was going for was that despite the US doing it as well, doesn't make it right. There were plenty of cringe moments then, and there are more when viewed in hindsight.

The irony is these western corporations are still paying their employees their full salary despite shutting down in Russia.

Meanwhile, $15/hr minimum wage is debated in the US because the price of a Big Mac will go up six cents. But that's a different thread.

I just heard a fascinating statement by a 30-something Ukrainian refugee in Lviv.

"We're living in the 21st century, not the 20th century. We're civilized."

Die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.

Not what I said nor was I trying to excuse it. But targeting a hospital and a bomb hitting a hospital because a chip got fried aren't equivalent.

What ever happened to that "massive" Freedumb Convoy? Did they burn up some diesel and complete a second lap of the Beltway before heading off to a massive lunch and a long nap?

The Twatter algorithm has gotten somewhat better in the last couple years in terms of spotting and hiding/shadowbanning the really obvious ones, but they are almost always easy to identify. Trolling Level: Lazy

reddit is a sewer, but sometimes... sometimes...

Imagine you are a Russian normie aspiring to the oscaryat. You live high life in Moscow, you work for a German corpo-ivanex and so far you have earned a monthly salary of 125,000 roubles, or about 1,500 euros. Good money in Russia. It wasn't your only income because you played the stock market a bit. You did quite well. So you blew the equivalent of some €5,000 in roubles. But fuck it, you know your business and you traded in such a way as not to lose. Just a week ago your shares were worth the equivalent of 20,000 euros in roubles.

You've already booked a holiday in Spain, but you're thinking of going to the Dominican Republic... because you can fucking afford it and your Yulka would love to post a photo on Instagram with a palm tree and the local man. At the same time you're laughing at the rotting West, especially at Poland and that PIS or whatever, and that crazy Dudu. Zdravstvuy, zdravstvuy, zhizn krasivaya.

War breaks out in Ukraine. You are happy that your country will finally liberate Malorossia from Nazi rule. Zdravstvuy, zdravstvuy, zhizn krasivaya. Suddenly you find that the rouble exchange rate is falling dramatically. You still earn 125 000 roubles, but that is the equivalent of 1 000 euros. You think it's temporary, because it's Velikaya Rossiya, but you don't know how to tell Yulka that you won't be going to the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, she's crying because they might turn off Instagram in Russia.

You log into your brokerage account. It doesn't work. Eventually it does and you find that the value of your investments has dropped to €30. Cyka blyat. You think it's a mistake, but Alyosha calls and says it's the same for him. You think to yourself: fuck it, there was a drop, there will be a rise, you have to live on. You go to work in Ivanex. You think to yourself: this is a company with foreign capital, so you don't give a fuck, but they're going to give you a valorisation increase or you're leaving Ivanex.

You remind yourself that you're supposed to buy a Russel Hobs "3 in 1" toaster because Yulka is switching to cooking content on Instagram. You've overheard Malafeev telling Arapatov that there's no cash in ATMs. You look in your wallet and there's 4500 roubles. Fucking hell. Enough for a toaster and a kilogram of "Autumn Waltz" sweets. On your lunch break you go to Media Markt and see that the toaster costs, yobanny bitch in rot, 18 000 roubles. You can't explain it to yourself. You know that the rouble is falling and all, but why are prices rising disproportionately to the fall of the rouble? You think to yourself: oh, that Gayropa and the Americans, they want to make your life miserable.

You go back to the office and your boss calls you. You think to yourself: well now I'll show Ivan, a raise and fuck. Ivan tells you that Ivanex is leaving Russia today and all the branches are being liquidated. You are out of a job from tomorrow, in fact from now on. Ivan tries to ask you out of the office by joking and says "Russki voyenny korabl, idi nahui". You don't know what the fuck he means because you haven't heard those words on TV or the internet. Perhaps some new boomer meme.

You return to your flat to find Yulka crying in despair because the travel agency called and, due to sanctions, Russia's exclusion from the SWIFT system and the closure of airspace to Russian planes, they are afraid that you and Yulka will not be able to pay the rest of the bill and take advantage of the offer, so they cancel it. They take the advance because there's no way to pay it back anyway. You think: No fucking way... You console Yulochka, saying that it will be fine. When she finds out that you lost your job in Ivanex, she starts to pack up and says that she is going back to her village in Severodvinsk. You try to convince her to stay, but she only replies "you shto? yebanulsya?".

You see that she is packing your belongings with her: a smart watch, a laptop and Air Max crossovers. She says it's compensation for her iPad, which you destroyed yesterday with a hammer on her live stream as a protest against the sanctions. Yulka leaves you and goes to Sevropizdetsk, you're left with fuck all, and Russia still can't get Kharkiv and Kyiv. Zdravstvuy, zdravstvuy, zhizn krasivaya

Apparently Ukrainian soldiers capturing Russian soldiers are so appalled by their provisions they are sharing their food with them.

This is starting to remind me of Austro-Hungarian WW1 stories from The Good Soldier Svejk.

To be fair, there’s some evidence and video circulating showing the Ukrainian forces taken up position in the hospital a few days ago.

That said it’s not the Ukrainian military per se, it’s one of those shady paramilitary units Ukraine has been using (Azov Battalion) since the take-over of Donetsk.

Point being, stuff like this happens in war; when humanity is reduced to its LCD. Why it’s imperative to avoid it at all cost.
