US Foreign Policy 2.0: Have you read Kipling, Mr. Tillerson?

Re: US Foreign Policy 2.0: Have you read Kipling, Mr. Tillerson?

We have a few more books in our Bible that our Protestant children discarded when they left the bosom of Holy Mother Church.

To be fair, I believe our Hebrew brothers and sisters also don't have the same # of OT books as we do.

But since we are still inheritors of the charge "whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven", it's still our rules so PFFT! :)

Or as they say in Rome, “Non me lo dica, perchè io sono Romano”

APOCRYPHA FTW!

1 Esdras (Vulgate 3 Esdras)
2 Esdras (Vulgate 4 Esdras)
Tobit
Judith ("Judeth" in Geneva)
Rest of Esther (Vulgate Esther 10:4 – 16:24)
Wisdom
Ecclesiasticus (also known as Sirach)
Baruch and the Epistle of Jeremy ("Jeremiah" in Geneva) (all part of Vulgate Baruch)
Song of the Three Children (Vulgate Daniel 3:24–90)
Story of Susanna (Vulgate Daniel 13)
The Idol Bel and the Dragon (Vulgate Daniel 14)
Prayer of Manasses (Daniel)
1 Maccabees
2 Maccabees

Swaggarts are still preaching, aren't they?

Swaggarts aren't Clintons. As you know very well.

Different standards and all. What's Diaper Dave Vitter up to these days? I know his wife just got a cushy circuit court appointment.

This is a long and deep piece but well worth it. It is an intricate and intelligent discursion on Putin's Russia.

Re: US Foreign Policy 2.0: Have you read Kipling, Mr. Tillerson?

It would be ironic if the global rollback of fascism began in... Italy?

Italy's anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) and the center-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) agreed on Wednesday to form a new coalition government and avoid snap elections which could favor Matteo Salvini's far-right League Party.

The League is the usual melange of righty nutbarisms (nationalist, federalist, anti-immigration, racist, Euroskeptic) and they were looking to ally with the actual fascist party so this, temporarily at least, locks the far right out of power.

The new coalition government as similar to our liberals and our conservdems burying their differences and joining to block the neofascist Republicans.

Given that for a few years we've looked to the German Chancellor to be the bulwark against it, I'd say we passed irony awhile ago.

I listened to an interview with Daniel Immerwahr on “On the Media”: “Empire State of Mind” which blew me away, and makes his book “How to Hide an Empire” my next must-read. I never knew any of that stuff about guano mining, or the Philippines, or Puerto Rico, etc etc
Listen if you can.

That's amazing. Makes you really question our own received wisdom on America's role in different wars. They take actual historical events and truthful statements about interests and strategy and then combine those into an Alice in Wonderland narrative that is completely contrary to the motives of the actors at the time. Beautifully done propaganda.

Did you know that the UK and France failed to defend their ally Poland, causing World War II? From the official Twitter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Well, the losers were down 14-3 going into the 8th.... But then they put up 6 in the 8th and now have the bases loaded on 4 straight walks and no outs in the 9th ;)

And this analogy really hits home the fact that the US really isn't top dog in the world anymore :(
