University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

Re: University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

I'm going to cut Cam a little slack. The first goal was not his fault, the second goal was completely on him (but I remember last year's goalie let in a few just like that - what was his name? :D ) and the third goal was a bit unlucky. The freshmen looked great - if Boeser's goal was a glimpse of what he can do we have a legit scorer. I didn't like the idea of three-on-three (big gimmick) but it was exciting - and there won't be any games going to a shootout.

Love the 3 on 3. Anything to eliminate the real gimmick, shootouts.

It will be interesting to see how teams play it - 3 forwards? 2 forwards and one D? UND played 2 F and 1 D, and I think that will work as long as you have mobile D. And it looked like getting fresh bodies on the ice is critical and hard to do.

The brief 3 on 3 we saw this weekend reminded me of the old OT rules in the NFL. The first team to get possession usually won.

Watching a few of the NHL preseason games, the line changes have been a trainwreck. And those teams have had a little longer to work on it. I'm sure this will be exciting, but also exasperating.

Do you guys have a name yet?

Voting takes place the week of October 19th. If none of the names gets over 50%, the students will vote for the top two vote getters. The choices are North Stars, Sundogs, Fighting Hawks, Nodaks and Roughriders. Uffda.

IMHO the top two will be North Stars and Fighting Hawks. Although personally I'd like to see you guys the Nodaks....

The University of North Dakota Uffda. I like that better than the other options. Can we do the Fighting Uffda?

I thought Cam Johnson had a very good weekend. After the timeout in game one he allowed only one goal in 5+ periods of play. If you are expecting him to step in and become Zane McIntyre then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. He is his own man. I liked the way he addressed the media after the first game, admitting he was a little nervous before the game started, but gaining confidence to the point where he stopped a breakaway and decided he wasn't giving up any more goals in that game. I described it to one North Dakota fan as having just the right combination of cockiness and humility. There are going to be growing pains and he isn't going to win every game he plays. As I recall, neither did McIntyre.

Brad Berry spoke about the number of fans that approached him in the hotel, at the arena and around town to express the bond they feel with the University of North Dakota and the hockey team because of Dean Blais and his squad's incredible gesture the night of October 13, 2000 in Orono. It remains one of the most touching tributes I have ever witnessed. Blais is coaching another team and the players have moved on, but even 15 years later the memory endures. Berry said the city of Portland was absolutely worthy of hosting an NCAA regional and, if Maine or New Hampshire weren't in the field, North Dakota is the one school Maine fans would show up and support. I know how much North Dakota fans love coming east for NCAA regionals, but I also know the people here would treat the team like they were still in Grand Forks.

So, according to the email that I just received, voting starts Monday at 8 a.m. Central time. Too bad they don't handle it like the polls here where you could go and check real time results. :D

Voting opened 15 minutes ago, or so. Any predictions as to how it turns out?

My prediction is that no name will get the 50% necessary to win, and a run off election will be necessary.

I'll go with Roughriders and Nodaks in the run off.
