University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Renwick turns on the jets and slips one into the net after beating the defense, great play. Agreed that line looks brilliant so far, Maines best line so far tonight.

Really great game, Maine was clearly the better team and they played like it. Can't ask for a much better performance to start the year than that.

The chemistry between Josh and everyone is absent

how many passes did Breen make to peoples’ backhands?

josh and brad always put the puck where the other could shoot.

here’s hoping THAT changes

Mitton deserved better he should have had 2 goals. Breen fighting it as well as Josh getting to know each other. This team is deep. AIC is not a crap team these guys made it look easy.

I thought Breen had a tough game, Josh also. They were all over the place, dominated the puck at times but a bounce here or there and they didn't put it where they wanted it. I noticed the guy from Lowell, we shall see if he can get it going. I can tell he will be a pest. Boija had a flurry of saves at one point in 2nd? But wasn't tested a whole lot. AIC didn't look like much to me except they got in the lanes and blocked a ton of shots. Puck possession was about 70 30 Maine, maybe more. Good first game, get the kinks out, have some fun playing against some one besides teammates.

That was the kind of dominant effort we should all love to see. 17/24/18 was a force to be reckoned with all game long. Every shift was noticeable and AIC didn’t have an answer for them.

Between some AIC blocked shots and a few layups that Mitton missed the scoreboard easily could have hit double digits.

About as easy a night as Boija will have all season I'd imagine. Stewart was listed as the backup on the lineup card so wonder if he and Berzins will split the Army exhibition next weekend.

I think the confusing Makar goal is because Renwick might have hit a pipe and it was sitting just in front of the goal line and Makar followed up and poked it in. I wish I could see a different angle(overhead?). Djuresevic looked good in the ozone. Nice assists he picked up. It’s a good sign that Maine dominated. New guys looked great.

Obviously a great performance last night. I wasn’t sure what the third line would look like and they were wonderful. I’m thrilled for Renwick to have a night like that. It hasn’t really gone his way at Maine but he is someone with a lot of talent and it showed last night.

The one negative for me was Maine again took a number of big hits. I know Barr doesn’t want to take stupid penalties but I think this year Maine should assert themselves more.

Nahh, I don’t know…I had a perfect seat for that. I’m pretty sure Renwick tucked it between the legs, the puck hit the back of the net, (I remember seeing it behind the goal line and coming back out) with the ref waving it off, yelling no, no no! and I was yelling yes, yes, yes!!!—then he signaled goal after Makar tipped it in (i was watching the ref and had no idea Makar followed)

Did TV show an overhead shot?

My seat is directly behind the net up top and Renwick hit the middle post and it bounced down and slid acoss the crease and Makar came and tapped it in

So what do we think of the lines at the start? The Def got way more experienced and adding Frank will hopefully add some scoring in addition to his size. Love the Renwick line and like to see Neimo in there as the year goes on.

1st - Breen, Nadeau, Scholle (Gr/So/So)
2nd - Scott, Freel, Russell (Sr/Jr/So)
3rd - Renwick, Makar, Mitton (Sr/Sr/Gr)
4th - Komarov, Fowler, Calafiore (Fr/Jr/So)
D Pairs
1st - Breazeale, Djurasevic (Sr/So)
2nd - Chabrier, Holt (Jr/Jr)
3rd - Lesakowski, Arnott (So/Jr)
Antonacci (Jr)
DNP
Neimo, Carney, Nobes, Dalton, Morse, Pichette

Compared to how last year ended:
1st - Scott, Nadeau, Nadeau
2nd - Breen, Houle, Freel
3rd - Renwick, Poisson, Trudeau
4th - Hanson, Calafiore, Scholle
D pairs
1st - Chabrier, Holt
2nd - Breazeale, Arnott
3rd - Antonacci, Lesakowski
Dalton/Hopkins
DNP - Pabich, Niemo, Lindauer, Carney, Nobes

Besides getting older, the team is deeper.
