University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Only 5 days until we can see some hockey at the Alfond again. The soft opening on the beer garden was pretty cool. I think Saturday is going to be packed.

O captain my captain.

ORONO, Maine – David Breazeale and Lynden Breen will captain the 2024-25 Maine men's ice hockey team while Nolan Renwick, Harrison Scott and Thomas Freel will serve as alternate captains.
Breen and Breazeale are both donning the 'C' for the second consecutive season while Renwick is an alternate captain for the second straight year. This is the first year that Scott and Freel will wear a letter on their jerseys. Breen and Breazeale also wore 'A's during the 2022-23 season.

Check out new parking rules before Saturdays game, going to be worse than ever unless you like the steam plant parking lot

The parking by the ball park is a little further to walk(past field house) but easier to get out of after the game if you use the back way off campus.

Last thing I want is more people parking at the steam plant... Been my go to for years. Sneaky easy to get out of there after games rather than parking on campus.

Thanks for the heads up, Heisenberg must have just added him to the list. Will get him on mine shortly.

I'm curious to know what Barr's recruiting philosophy is. UMO (my second favorite HEA team) has something like 36 commits for the next 3 years including 12 for 2025 and another 8 listed as 2025 or 2026 and another 16 for '26 and beyond. How can he possibly be planning to enroll all of these kids? What kinds of partial scholarships are these kids expecting to receive? Are these soft commitments and the staff will see who develops and then "apologize" to those that do meet their standards or fit their needs?

Your team should be very competitive this season. Chabrier (once an NU recruit, as was Mitton) has developed very nicely. Looking forward to UMO's visit to Matthews (perhaps for the last time) on 10/25-26. If you are coming for the game, I'd suggest trying for Friday night's game as Saturday is a sellout due to Parents Weekend. First NU has to play 2 at Denver. Nice scheduling!

Nice update on the changes today:

https://goblackbears.com/news/2024/1...ond-arena.aspx

The parking flow will be a little questionable this year. Interested to see what the lighting changes were.

They put new lights over the lower seats, was just in there checking it out as I was headed back from the county. Looks nice. Old lights still over ice but they were not on. They were putting steel up on the south side. I'd guess new roof over Shawn Walsh Hockey center will be up by Christmas break. They have painted the roof and its bright white once again. AIC was on score board :) Just walking around in there brought back great memories.

Obviously it wouldn’t make sense to allow people to take beers to their seats but it will be interesting how encouraging people to pound beers in the beer garden works out.

I would think you would want fans driving on campus as little as possible but I guess the school sees it differently. Perhaps after a few games they will change it. I don’t mind the steam plant this time of year but it certainly isn’t as enjoyable in January!

Is there a new concession provider or just some new offerings? It’s an area for a long time the school has left money on the table and hopefully it is better this year.

The lighting is definitely noticeable. Much brighter in the building which I think is a good thing. Wonder if it will make a big difference on the TV broadcasts for those watching at home.

I think the concession provider is now Sodexho.

Bradly wasn’t the best player in his league, was borderline bad in the last 2 games that actually mattered and then left instead of coming back to prove it. So. I dunno. He’s really talented and has a sky high ceiling but he’s prob gonna be with the Chicago Wolves. So why not try to dominate this level first? Easy for me to say. I get it. Wish him all the best. But expected more if I’m being totally honest.

Pretty hard to be mad at a player who gets a chance to move up. Its his dream. I've heard his advisor(s) pushed him to go? I also wonder if school wasn't for him? Some guys love it and some don't.

It'll be interesting to see the lineup on Saturday. I'm guessing:

Makar Breen Nadeau
Freel Scott Mitton
Fowler Renwick Scholle
Carney Komarov Callafiore

Brazeale Djuasevic
Holt Chabrier
Lesakowski Arnott
Antonacci (dressing 7 D)

All 3 goalies dress, Boija starts

Only line I've seen really locked together at the two practices I've been to has been a top line of: Nadeau | Breen | Scholle

Beyond that it's been really tough to get a clear picture because there has been so much mixing and matching.

I definitely think the D pairings are locked in as:

Breazeale | Chabrier
Holt | Djurasevic
Lesakowski | Antonacci

His advisor was his Dad

Nadeau is repped by Phil Reid/Evolution Sports Management. Grown men bashing someone for signing an NHL contract, making hundreds of thousands of dollars and pursuing their dream is so weird to me. Making up rumors about tension between the family and coaching staff when Josh is still on the team despite AHL offers/being able to transfer anywhere he wants. Do you guys really want to go back to the days of Cam Brown/Blaine Byron level players carrying the offense?

Agree I have no issue with what he did, it's his life and his decision. I know who he is repped by, but the leading factor was the "family" decision in this matter. And Brad felt he didn't have anything left to prove at Maine and that's his decision, again.

I'm sort of surpised about Scholle being on the top line are you? He does have a chance to score a ton of goals on that line though.
