University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

According to Madison's website, he is still a Maine commitment.

If you click on his name it then says uncommitted. The Maine logo was also removed from the game day line up sheets. His name has a strike through on the Heisenberg list. Unfortunately this seems like he has pulled his commitment despite signing an NLI. Sucks because he was a high end forward that would likely jump into the top 6 forwards as a freshman.

I am not sure on those two transfer forwards. There could be a bit of interest from multiple teams and they want to do a visit or something.

It appears as though Syzszka isn’t ready to come in with an 0.85 save percentage in USHL. Likely needs another year to see if he can progress. Berzins played quite well. It is interesting because he played in a rotation with a goalie that had better save percentage. So he is used to being in a rotation. I’m happy with the future of our goaltending. I think for the #3 goalie they would need to add a developmental project that isn’t expecting playing time(similar to Mundinger). Or maybe Androlewicz comes back from the portal?

Maybe Barr told him to look around and if nothing came up he would be ok to come back and be the #3 again..usually when you enter the Portal they don't return.. but maybe.

In fairness to Szyszka, he was in a tough spot this season getting moved to a putrid Omaha team that had a -110 goal differential.

He definitely needs another year but have to think a change of scenery off that team would help him a bit more.

Tristan Lymere went to Western Michigan. Nick Rheaume left Lowell and entered the portal. I thought he was a bright spot on a pretty bad team this year for Lowell... not using stats just watching him play.

Here is an updated watch list:

You can't make everyone happy...who knows what happened...Barr will just roll with it.

No doubt you will lose out on recruits but after he signs NLI?? Thats what bugs me. I'm sure Barr is over it, next man up.

Yes...had to be with the recruit...in this this day and age of recruiting...plus the portal...lots to work on and with...Staff needs to be sharp all the time...but schools lose out and move on...at least he was not here for a season then bolted...that can make for a tougher recruiting season after season. But thinking this has been a good segway to 2024-25 season...thinking a gritty/hard working blue collar bunch with "IF" goaltending is solid and steady could be a very promising season...even with a tough schedule...which I like 100%...Is It October YET..!! HAHA...!

So the one thought I have is it has something to do with family logistics?? His hometown, Naperville, is just outside of Chicago, which is in the middle of the B1G territory. So all teams other than Penn State are within 5.5 hour drive. No doubt his family would watch him play more in the B1G than in Hockey East. The sad part is he has a highly rated younger brother, Robin, that just got drafted into the USHL. So he could have been another strong recruit for Maine that likely doesn’t happen now either. I thought he was going to Wisconsin if I had to place a wager. But another B1G school kind of makes sense for the family logistics of trying to watch both kids play.

I’m not sure why the “IF” on goaltending. Ostman wasn’t very good his senior year, having started 5 more games than Boija. If Boija plays the lion’s share of games it is a lock to have better goaltending than this past season. I agree on the very promising part, Maine should be solid again this season, top 4 in hockey east seems like a reasonable prediction.

One thing with goaltending is there is always a "IF"/imo....especially that Bojia did play well but next season is just that...another season to prove last season was not a fluke...but don't get me wrong, hoping he's 4-real...plus Berzins comes in and makes it a solid goaltending tandem.

When the second semester came and it was the hockey east schedule plus post-season Boija started 14 games and Ostman got 5 starts. The final game should have been a Boija start but he was sick. So to me this is already proven and not a fluke. I think with a full season of regular starts he will be an above average hockey east goalie. I’m also, like you, expecting Berzins to get some games where he can work his way into a rotation. But that is yet to be proven, though he did well in USHL down the stretch.

Busy day… Cody Laskosky(RW) joined Wisconsin after leaving RIT. Colby Ambrosio(RW) joined Miami after leaving BC. Ross Rolloson(RD) joined Niagara after leaving Lake State.
