University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I’m pretty sure I read a few weeks ago UMA has some NIL money to spend so that could be the difference. It wouldn’t shock me if Maine used a fair amount of whatever they have for NIL on Boija, Nadeau, and Holt.

I really can’t see Maine getting much elite talent without spending a lot on NIL. Hopefully Barr and others work hard on that over the summer.
I don't think NIL is as important as you think it is. WMU spent $0 in NIL money and had a decent year this year with some elite talent.

Not sure if that is true as far as WMU goes but they are a fairly wealthy school and have a decent amount of local talent. WMU aside, I just don’t see a ton of kids picking Maine over other HEA schools unless Maine offers them decent money.

I think CHL kids would, specifically the QMJHL kids. Proximity. I was told NIL doesn't come into play for foreign kids because of the student visa vs work visa issue. So not sure you are correct in assuming Boija and Nadeau are making NIL yet until the rules change. Holt could be though.

Also it was true about WMU. Their coach said it on an interview. He said his players didn't recieve a penny of NIL.

On NIL, I find it a bit silly that Maine wouldn't be able to afford NIL. If you have donors giving $200M for uprgrading things across campus... why wouldn't there be a account where money can be collected and then invested into low risk 5% type returns where the interest is what is there for NIL money. The original invested base is still in tact and potentially growing if the NIL money isn't spent. So I don't believe there isn't NIL money available at Maine.

It may be more of a principle thing. I can imagine for some kids if they are busting their humps and getting no NIL and you have a gifted kids not back-checking and acting snotty getting NIL there could be lockeroom issues. It could be Barr out of principle doesn't want that to happen. He is very much a "be humble" coach, constantly trying to instill that into his team.

However, that is just a guess since I have no idea who is getting NIL and who isn't AND for how much.

The 5th episode of Journey North season 3 is out.

That was a great episode. Great speaker, Jeff Neal, drummer of the band Boston. Never knew he was a Maine hockey fan. Very cool guy it seems, also a school teacher. http://www.gonnahitcharide.com/musicians/jeff-neal

I bet none of the guys in that room even knew there was a band named Boston. Or any of their songs. But I bet they did after.

These are just top notch productions. The program hit a home run with these and huge back slap to Simon french, not to mention he's not a bad photographer.

Never a Boston fan (they shamelessly ripped-off The James Gang) but, yeah, we saw The Cars at that bar just off campus in (maybe) 1978. Think they called that place "Planet Orono". Didn't last long, that bar, but the show was free.

Yup, the Cars were a bar-band from Boston back then, just before their first album (remember vinyl? ) went on sale. That thing was on the radio for months/years/still today. Tons of hits. All the kids on my floor wore that shit out. I wasn't a big fan, but whatever.

Now, Ric Ocasek is long dead and times have changed. You are only on top of your game for a minute or two...

I was hoping BU, or anyone from HE would win if Maine couldn’t. It is not good that hockey East has won only once in last 9 championship games. NCHC teams have won 7 of those 9 championships. That is more sad than my hatred for another team. I go all way back to 1991/92 season so grew into hockey fan during Walshy and Parker wars. However, my hatred for BU seemed to fade after Walsh died and even more after Parker retired. I’d like to see hockey east take down more titles.

Let the good times roll.

Bradly Nadeau eating the AHL up, 30 goals and another 20 something assists, still hasn't turned 20. Called up to Carolina for the playoffs, pretty cool

I think there is some nuance there in what WMU is saying. I think they're playing semantics on the words.
