University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Both probably. Penn State was getting through neutral zone with ease against Maine, not so much with UConn. I think UConn is more aggressive with anticipating and intercepting… stepping up into passes. Maine just kept backing off and played timid.
Well i guess ps has HE number so far.
Guess I have to push them to beat BU now.

What a crappy ending to the greatest season I have ever seen for Maine hockey. That's an important point for me to stress on behalf of us that attended during the Gendron era (and followed along during the later Whitehead years). We used to fight to avoid road games in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs and this year we won the damn thing! It doesn't erase the disappointment, but it is important perspective.

As for the path forward, Maine is unlikely to build a roster full of blue chippers. The elite players typically end up at one of seven or eight schools and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Our best plan for success is to keep gradually raising the caliber of recruit, which Barr has been doing, and to bring in key portal or CHL guys to fill holes as needed. Luckily Barr has shown he has a nose for that so far.

HE goes 1 for 6. The BI6 goes 1 for 5 (the lucky one to even have been there). And the freaking Nacho goes 2 for 2. I can hear Chris Farley saying, "son of a ..."
I saw this on Dave Starmans feed too and I mean if the 6th place in the NCHC got in they wouldnt be 4-0 so its just not a great comparison or indictment of Hockey East, I dont think

I think a major key to success moving forward is maintaining a good balance of limiting 1 and done's, higher end prospects that will stay 2-3 years, and developing 4 year contributors. Having a B. Nadeau on this year's team would have paid dividends in the long run I think.

I agree. That's why I love a lot of the portal additions Barr has made like Harrison Scott that come in with experience but with years of eligibility left. Ironically, Max Scott has 2 years of eligibility and is one of McMahon's top defensive forwards in the portal.

EDIT: Adding a link to McMahon's portal tracker for anyone that's interested https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...9zEts9az3OZ8/edit?gid=983342364#gid=983342364

Lots of work to do to replace Scott, Breen, Makar, Renwick and Mitton on forward. Max Scott would be a good start. Other than Gerrior, what freshman forwards are formally committed?
