Union Hockey Offseason Thread - That was fun...

Re: Union Hockey Offseason Thread - That was fun...

Nice to hear the coaches POV on the recruits, don't remember this happening much in the past..

A few questions answered. Cruice is the replacement for Johnston up front, but have to believe his offensive potential is not quite as high - played 3 seasons in the EJHL and last 2 averaged barely over a point per game. Still he is a prototypical Union player; good size, physical, good skater, works very hard. His EJ team this past season had 2 of the best forwards in the league (both going to other ECACs BTW) and Nick was not on their line, so maybe his offensive potential is higher than it seems.. but we'll have to wait and see.

Wilkins seems to be the best bet to crack the lineup as a top 6 forward.. liked Dumais comparing him to Zajac.

Confirmed that DiPauli was injured last season in the USHL and had "surgery". Hopefully he will recover and be ready in the fall. Sounds like a potential John Simpson (i.e. very fast).. not a bad thing at all.

Consensus seems to be that Gingras has a big shot from the point and there are plans to try him in the Welsh role on the PP.. hopefully his defensive game is complete enough that he will earn a regular playing slot and this isn't just wishful thinking.

I like that both Gingras and Boyle are listed at 6-2, as could use a little more size on the blueline and junior/prep rosters are famous for making players "bigger" than they really are.

For the '13 class, this means there are now 2 d-men committed and one forward to replace at least 3 dmen and 2 forwards.. this is going to be a very important class for both d-men and forwards.

Union has a new pick up. Ryan Scarfo, a F from Govenors Academy. Will be a sr next year, had very solid year and will probably show up after playing a year in BCHL/USHL. Looks like a 2014 addition. He made a name for himself in Road to College Hockey a few weeks ago. Several schools were in the hunt.

This is what USHR had to say after RTCH
Ryan Scarfo, F, ’94 (Governor’s)— An underappreciated player who did himself a lot of good here. The more you watch him the more he grows on you. Can really fire the puck and has good vision. Would not be surprised to see Scarfo eclipse 50 points next season. Is very much a “tweener” for DI schools in the sense that he is not your typical third/fourth line energy/PK type, but is also not quite dynamic enough to hold down a top six spot. Time will tell, but keep an eye on him.

Sounds like he'll fit right in with the Union system. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next two seasons.

He did not skate yesterday at the last day of camp.

Hopefully nothing too serious or something that lingers. The USA LP camp is 3 weeks out- so if there is an actual injury there's a chance he won't skate at that camp...
Laughton's hit on Ghost was characterized as a "monster". Hopefully he is ok and this won't effect his upcoming camp with the USA team. Also shows how tough it would be going pro at 160 lbs. Genuine fight at the camp there, sounds like a perfect end to a Flyers gathering.

2012-2013 schedule poster below.... I wonder how much season tickets will be this year. I'd be shocked if they didn't increase, but the question is by how much. I had a bleacher season seat last year -- $119 for the 14 regular season home games, about $8.50 a game. I'm planning on renewing.

A couple months ago, the TU mentioned the possibility of some tweaks to Messa - has anyone heard anything on that front?

And, by the way, Nick Cruice is listed as #8 on the 12-13 roster. That was Mike Ingoldsby's number.

Re: Union Hockey Offseason Thread - That was fun...

Received season ticket brochure today. Individual tickets are $12 and $10, except "premium" games which are $14 and $12. Season tickets are $169 and $149 and include TUC game with RPI. If my math is right, it looks like an increase in the season ticket package of about $1 a game. I'm factoring in the TUC ticket price at $15.

Just curious. What are the "PREMIUM GAMES"?? RPI I would guess would be one.

Re: Union Hockey Offseason Thread - That was fun...

Anyone have any insight into when the banners ECAC, Cleary Cup, and Frozen Four will be raised?

Merrimack on Oct 6 or RPI in Nov.

Would be nice to do it against RPI just to **** them off.
