UNION Hockey National Champion's Off Season-U Believe it?

Re: UNION Hockey National Champion's Off Season-U Believe it?

If you can't make it to the parade today, TWC Albany will be streaming it online here starting at 4:00 - http://albany.twcnews.com/

And still more on the Parade ......

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.--It's celebration day in Schenectady. A parade will be held Thursday in honor of the national championship won by the Union College men's hockey team.
The Dutchmen won their first ever national championship last weekend, after defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 7-4.

The parade steps off at 4 p.m. in front of Alumni Gym on campus. It will head towards Messa Rink, travel to Nott Street, Seward Place, Union Street, and Jay Street before culminating at city hall.

The hockey team will be riding in style on four fire trucks along the parade route. Also included in the parade will be local youth hockey players, bagpipers, and the Union College pep band.

Can someone find SB Nation's predictions from last year at this time?

I expect Tyler Hynes will be a factor next year as well. Remember, the USHL is substantially stronger than other junior leagues available to college players (only Tier 1 league in US). USHL players seem able to step right in. See Taylor and Lichtenwald.

I agree with you, Hynes started putting up some pretty impressive numbers after his trade to Fargo. I think he may end up being the freshman that is most likely to contribute right away.

Rumor has it that Sen. Chuck will be at the banquet tonight if there is enough room for him on the bandwagon. Most dangerous place to stand at banquet? Between Sen. Chuck and a TV camera. :D

Re: UNION Hockey National Champion's Off Season-U Believe it?

Union's championship run is the quintessential "feel good" story. A splendid small college, where the term, scholar-athlete, is not an oxymoron, has captured the hearts of all who follow college sports. That Union is the epitome of all that is good in hockey is an indelible credential and richly deserved.

Even after watching the parade today it still hasn't sunk in. Union did win on Saturday, right?:D

actually they lost. Saw a post yesterday where a MN poster said because Union was 4 or 5 months older, the results were being reversed.

MN and BC have insisted that going forward they want all other teams to be handicapped. BC/MN proposed that for every 2 months older 5 lbs in skate weights will be added. Talking with D Wayne Lucas again tomorrow to help put a final scale in place.

They do it with racehorses and MN swore that Union reminded them of just that.

Re: UNION Hockey National Champion's Off Season-U Believe it?

I spoke with Stevens at the parade, he said he will be back next year. Also spoke with Carr, Bodie, and Ciampini. It was great :D

Re: UNION Hockey National Champion's Off Season-U Believe it?

Bodie just got mentioned during the Ranger intermission on MSG, short highlight reel from National championship game as well. announcer also confirmed he would be finishing his degree and joining the team next season.

We will enter Union in the Breeders Cup Classic with high weight and still win

Awesome banquet tonight. Ghost was very eloquent and emotional in his remarks as were all of the seniors. Mat Bodie was particularly touching as he broke down but left the crowd in a standing ovation. Very difficult not to genuinely like these young men and to wish them the best.

Union College hockey: David’s victory over Goliath?

"And any Union College hockey fan gets a bit agitated when they hear about RPI and hockey…since the contentious Mayor’s Cup battle back in January. You know the one—the game that RPI won 2-1 and ended with fights and suspensions?"

Yes, we still get aggitated. You too would be aggitated if your school and students and administration were flooded with sick anonymous phone calls and disgusting hate mail directed at some of the finest young men in College Hockey including our All-American Captain. Our coach, who was defamed by the same sick RPI fans, has been selected as Coach of the Year. A finer coach and a finer person, there is none. And no appologies were accepted by the Troy fans ......

Yep, success is the best revenge .... for now.

We will not forget. Cannot wait untill next year ;)

Can you please give us more details for those of us who were unable to make it? Did Chuck show up?

No Chuck, but the Mayor was there and of course Pres. and Mrs. Ainlay, Frank and Colleen Messa. Not a dry eye in the house. It was packed, approximately 250 guests.

This year the ECAC was evenly split between winners and losers. The top 6 teams all had winning records both in conference and overall. The botton six teams had losing records both in conference and overall. Who are going to be the top 6 teams next year?

I will say more of the same...

1. Colgate - leading up to Sr. laden 15-16 team. NCAA team.
2. Union - lose key players, but strong program has momentum. NCAA team.
3. Cornell - Need a goalie, solid Sr. class (NCAA bubble)
4. Quinnipiac - Graduate some key players, enough talent there in Peca, Anas and the goalie. (NCAA bubble)
5. Dartmouth - returning scorers lead resurgence.
6. Yale - status quo
Harvard and Brown seem to have the potential to challenge for 5 and 6.
