A big thank you to Union college and Coach Bennett for coming to AIC!

Enjoy my trip to West Springfield! Remember, 85 cents on the NY part and Free on the MA part. Get your gas in Massachusetts. (Even though the station by the rink is 10 cents higher than others in the area) And make sure you get a donut at the Donut Dip after the game. Retro old time donut place that comes out of the era of Mike's Hot dogs!
just head north on 5 after the Dip and it will bring you onto I-90 again.

Feel free to say hello to me. I'll have a black RPI Lacrosse jacket on (Sorry, can't wear one of my 3 Union hockey jerseys tonight)

Oh, and if you have and need one, bring a seat cushion.

Not the toughest opponent they'll face all year, but an 8-0 win is still impressive. Going by what I saw on Twitter, Stevens made some nice saves in his first collegiate shutout. 7 different players, all forwards, scored tonight. Cruice scored his first college goal. Kyle Bodie scored twice.

I'm excited to see what Boyle can do. Ottawa's scouts were very high on him heading into the draft, and USHR views him as a recruiting steal for Union.

A tie vs UConn certainly qualifies as disappointing - then throw in an injury to Gostisbehere and the night is all the worse. At least they scored late to tie the game, but it was a game they should have won. A team like Union shouldn't have problems beating a lower-end Atlantic Hockey team like UConn. I didn't see the game, so who knows what happened. It seemed like a Jekyll and Hyde weekend.

Schott has since reported that Gostisbehere's injury is "lower body" and not the knee. Bennett says he's "fine," but we'll see how "fine" he is come Friday... definitely don't want to be without Gostisbehere as league play opens against an improved RPI squad.

I only heard the radio broadcast in the third, but they said Forgaard didn't make the trip this weekend.

PS - Nice work with the game threads, dutchfan.

I am surely disappointed with the tie but I'm also not going to read too much into it at this point. Union bounced back from the last Uconn game which was a worse tie IMO when we gave up a 3-0 lead. I am somewhat concerned that Union could not adjust to the tactics employed by Uconn apparently packing in the D and forcing Union into a lot of long range perimeter shots. I did not get the impression that we were doing a lot of net crashing and working hard in the "dirty" areas. I'm sure other teams will consider the same tactics to neutralize our speed and passing game, particularly the bigger teams, like Uconn.

In general it still seems like the coaching staff is still searching for the right line combinations. I'm also not sure if Troy is as sharp as he was last season but if not he will come around especially if he has Stevens pushing him.

The loss of Ghost would loom large but this is a deep team which would reduce his loss somewhat.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

You guys have to understand that UConn suddenly has scholarships in their program, so this isn't as bad as you might think. It does look like most of the scholarship players are freshmen with a few scattered to the other classes, so they aren't up on the learning curve just yet. But this was not a UConn team like the recent past. I would be surprised if they were not near the top of the AHA as soon as they get going, say after the holidays. In two years time they will be in HE and that transition has already begun.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Union drops to no. 10 in both national polls. http://dailygazette.com/weblogs/schott/2012/oct/29/union-slips-to-10th-in-uschoncaa-hockey-poll/ I am actually a little surprised that they stayed in the top 10. They got another first place vote again...go figure.

And surprisingly, Schott isn't the one giving the first place vote.

In his "College Hockey Slap Schotts" weekly posting, he said he's never heard Bennett as angry was he was after the UConn game.
