Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Its early in the season let's not question Rick on his lineup just yet ! Its obvious in previous posts you take issue with some players. Its easy to blame certain players for the teams lack of success lately. Your last post is calling out the coach on his line up, not well for the fans to be telling coaches what there line up should be. It was a bad weekend; it happens it will get better very talented team here. Let's not push the panic button. How about go back over the loses and see all the turn overs the missed passes the bad goals. Looks like you have a few scapegoats and you want to blame them for the teams problems! Maybe you should have interviewed for the job. Twice you have complained about two big hits in a game first one was legit and warranted no penalty. But player got one anyway. Second one against Brown player went down like he got shot and ref only put his hand up after whole Brown bench chirped , put his hand up very late and after we reviewed it, it was a good hit maybe a little early. But if you were there you would have seen Brown player laughed all the way to the bench and high fived team mates on his flopping. Its two bad loses look at the whole problem. This is a good team and a great program let's not get sour yet !!! Rick will fix the problems , very young team and he will find the best lineup to win.

I'm not sure what you're referring to in regards to complaining about big hits. This is a fan forum, lineups are inevitably going to be discussed. What fun would it be if everyone agreed on everything. Fans disagree with coaches all the time.

Looking at the goals from last night, Grosenick was left out to dry on the 3rd because of a turnover. The 4th goal was awful. It's tough say one the first one. On the 2nd one, the Yale guy shouldn't have been allowed to sneak in there like he did. Video is on the ECAC site.

I also think its ok to speculate on lineups and the like and doing so shouldn't be considered a criticism of the coach. Fans don't know everything we just think we do. Besides, it's pretty obvious with the unsettled lineups that the staff is also trying to find the right combinations of available players.

So far as Tuesday is concerned we're going to see two teams desperate for a win which usually leads to some compelling hockey, though these two teams rarely need any additional incentive when they face each other.

Hopefully there's a good Union backing there on Tuesday night. I'm looking forward to it, despite this past weekend. That's a strange night for a game, so hopefully it doesn't throw people off. I overheard someone at the game last night go, "are they really playing on Tuesday?"

It would be interesting if others submitted their lineups, just to see how close any of us are on Tuesday. Just for fun.

Despite my lineup quibbles, I do think they've done a great job getting the goalies ready to compete at a high level the vast majority of the time.

Rankings are subjective fluff for the most part. The real action is in the pairwise and we've dropped off the charts there. Our December OOC opponent, Merrimack is currently number one on that.

Michigan (10), Denver (17), Colorado College (11) are all on the Pairwise. Even Quinnipac, who they play on 12/2, is 25th.

It's pretty wacky this early in the year. The meat of the schedule will give up plenty of opportunities to rise (or not).

Pete Iorizzo of the TU has a game advance here.

And Ed Weaver of the Troy Record has a game advance here

The big question in my mind is who will be in goal. Sounded like Rick really didn't know, at least as of yesterday. If he goes with Stevens that would mean he would have played almost three games in five days - a lot for a goalie. Also sounds like the lineups will be juggled some more. Will be interesting to see how close you came to who's actually out there tonight.

Yes, this past weekend was deja vu from the early days.:( In the beginning of DI, a weekend like that was the norm. The first year we had only three wins. I guess I've gotten very used to winning, especially at home. Hopefully tonight we'll be back on track.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Since I know as little as anyone, I'll say that Grosenick starts. I'm concerned about Mat Bodie after the nasty shot he took at the end of the Yale game, even though he did return later. No indication that he won't be available though. I think someone else was hurt and didn't return late in the game, possibly Hatch? Would be nice to see Vasaturo in the lineup, but again, no idea what his status may be. There's a pretty long break now between games so I would think it should be all hands on deck.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

It was Hatch. From my vantage point, it looked like a hand/wrist thing. He didn't bring his stick back to the bench when he went down. He went back to the locker room but returned to the bench shortly after. Didn't see him get back into the game. Not sure if that was because he couldn't go or if they decided it wasn't worth it being down 4-0 late in the third. His status is something I'm curious about too, but we'll see soon enough.

Welsh is at wing with Jooris at center and Carr up on the first line. My sleeper pick for a big game tonight is Max Novak. No particular reason, just like the way he plays.

Great win for the team tonight. Carr finally broke out which helped the offense tremendously.
