Well last night was certainly disappointing.. Of the OOC games, that should have been one of the easier ones and sounds like if U had any kind of intensity over the first 2 periods they would have won easily. Of course, the good news is they didn't lose and have a chance to make it a successful weekend by winning tonight.. though that will not happen if they play a similar game against RIT.

I'm still trying to get a handle in my mind on how good this team is and will likely be posting one of my numbingly long posts on the subject after tonight's game, but my overall impression is that the tending will be fine (I'm not worried about Stevens yet, as really he needs at least a season or two to mature) and the d-men look like a talented group. My bigger concern is up front where there really are only 2 dangerous forward lines and no real checking/energy line has emerged. Burgie's comments on Yano don't sound off base and seem to be typical of the inconsistency I've seen on the 3rd & 4th lines. Luckily it is still very early in the season and there is time for the players and especially the coaches to improve things and settle on more consistent line combos.. but it's got to come together pretty quickly or the brutal part of the OOC schedule could produce some shockingly bad results.

Sounds like both teams are struggling heading into tonight's game. Good luck tonight (but not too much) - I'm still a bit worried you guys are going to hang up a large number on whichever inexperienced goaltender is starting (Madolora is out due to NCAA incompetence regarding a ruling they made a couple years back about his eligibility). I know the game is on Time Warner Sports Channel in the Rochester area - there's a good chance it'll be on in the Albany region as well. If so, I apologize in advance for the awful commentators.

The game is going to be televised on TWC3 in the Albany area - I'm excited. It seldom happens that an away game is televised. Usually Union's home, and we're at the game to see it live.

It sure beats listening on the radio, even though our commentators are awesome!:)

Thanks to Burgie for thoughtful analysis of last night's game. From what I heard it seemed like pretty much of a clunker. I guess we forgot to compete and that almost any team, especially one with a hot goaltender can stick around at this level if you don't bring your best effort. On the other hand Union did start 6 or 7 freshmen and the fact that Coach started Stevens in goal may have sent a mixed message to the team that somehow they could coast, though Stevens seemed to play pretty well for his first start. He needs to get in some game action so why not? I felt all along that it will take the first month or two for this team to learn who they are, and that if we can get through the OOC at close to .500 and win 3 or 4 ECAC games, that we should be able to close strong. Tonight would be a good time to get that second win, enough of these ties. Looking forward to the broadcast, it should be a good crowd and college hockey atmosphere.

Didn't see a game thread. Halfway through this one and it's total domination. Coaches must have had a few comments to wake the boys up.

Nice game, guys. Hopefully this will wake the team up, although if getting beat by Cansius didn't do it, I'm not confident this will either. I sense some bag skates in RIT's future. I wouldn't want to be a Tiger come Monday...

Over in the RIT thread, there was mention there was 5 consecutive kills without giving up a shot? If true, that is quite impressive.

They said on Coaches Corner Live that the banner ceremony will be at 6:45 Saturday night.

I will be heading up to Schenectady for the weekend...Looking forward to seeing the banner raised on Saturday. This program has come a LONG way (just in the short 6-7 years I've been following it).

Won't be back for a while (tore my ACL, surgery on Thursday), so I hope they can get the win over AIC.

Don't forget Union Fans - The Banner Ceremony starts at 6:45 at Messa Rink tomorrow night - It's homecoming and sure to be crammed, so get there early. Both of this weekend's games broadcast live on 1240 and 1160 AM locally, or anywhere at teamline.cc! 6:45 pregame, 7pm faceoff! Let's Go U!

I wonder how many people bother showing up tomorrow night. We might get up to 8 inches of snow tomorrow afternoon and evening, and with leaves still on many trees, the risk for downed trees and power outages are elevated. Road visibility isn't going to be great.

The banner ceremony will be nice, but wonder how many people will risk dealing the the elements to see a game that (probably) will be one of the biggest blowouts of the year for Union. Myself included (and I already have a ticket).

Wow, what a miserable forecast. I was going to do a double header with U v RPI football, then the hockey. I will play it by ear but will almost certainly go to the hockey game. The crowd may be somewhat diminished, but with Homecoming weekend, there could be a bit of a captive audience.
