So now if the two score a goal, can we say that the goalie let in a Foo Foo shot? :D

Uh oh, ken Schotts blog reports that Mike Vecchione suffered an injury during practice today. http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs/schott/2014/nov/25/unions-vecchione-injured-practice/. It doesn't at first glance appear too serious but it's hard to say with so little to go on. I think the team is scheduled to fly out tomorrow which could be challenging in terms of the weather being forecast,

There wasn't even supposed to be a practice today because of final exams.

Great Win by Harvard and RPI !!!! Harvard showed character and class and leadership and talent against a great third period BU team. Sort of reminds me of us. :) ECAC is 12-5-2 vs HE and league now has second best OC record in College Hockey. Best example of my contention that ECAC has best goalies in College Hockey was the play of RPI and Harvard goalies.

And that was our backup.

My contention is that the ECAC has the best goalies in College Hockey. However, how do you measure that? How do you separate the play of the goalie vs the rest of the team? I am not sure you can. Here is one interesting stat. In looking at team defense, the ECAC, as of today ....
has 4 of the top 10 teams
has 6 of the top 20 teams
has 10 of the top 30 teams ..... 1/3 of the top 30 teams
The top 10 teams in the ECAC are playing solid defense and each of their teams are anchored by one or more outstanding goalies ..... about the only conclusion we can draw so far.

It looks like it just started snowing in Schenectady. Hope the team made it out ok. Any word on Veck?
To all Union and ECAC fans, have a Great Thanksgiving !!!!

Don't expect much info on the Vecchione injury. Typically injuries except in glaring situations are played close to the vest. "Upper body", "lower body", "game time decision", etc.

I am inclined to agree, but it could also be that there aren't enough scorers in the league. There are three teams that can't buy a goal at the moment - Cornell, Princeton and Brown. Also, I have a hard time believing that much has changed since SLU was averaging about 5 goals a game last season. But I agree, there are some very good defensive teams in this league and some very hot goalies at the moment.

Re: Union College Hockey 2014-2015 "ReUnion 2015? Why "Nott"?

The ECAC is going into an intense period of Out of Conference matchups. If my count is correct, between now and mid January and then the Bean Pot, there are about 72 Out of Conference non-exhibition matchups. The non-Ivy ECAC teams got the conference off to a good start in OC play and the Ivy's are continuing that (Thank You Harvard !!!). However, that success is not showing up in the pairwise as of yet. IMO this year the ECAC will be at its most competitive in the past 5 years but this is just an opinion. If I am correct it should show up in these non-conference wins and loses. Its really important that we do well over these 72 games if we hope to have more than 2-3 teams make the NCAA's. If I am wrong it does not mater but if I am right, it would be a shame if we could not get at least three teams in the tourament. If we managed 4 then IMO it would confirm my suspicion that indeed, this is going to be an exceptionally exceptional year for the ECAC.

BTW,
Right now we (ECAC) have 5 of the top 12 defenses in DI. Consistent with my belief that we have some of the best goal tending in College Hockey but Goalie stats are only one part of team defense. Very hard to quantify goalies.

Has anyone got an idea on how to stream the video tonight? The link takes you to NBC Sports and then seems to quit there.

http://www.und.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/112614aaa.html
http://watchnd.tv/#!/
http://watchnd.tv/#!/shows/Shillelagh_Tournament/1873751

Against UML they had
WatchND (Audio and Video)
NBC Sports.com
NBC Sports Network
New Country 99.9 FM

Against us they only appear to have
NBCsports.com
New Country 99.9 FM

Must be because we are an ECAC team

Looks like action starts with the first matchup at 4:00pm, we are at 7:35pm

You'll be able to get further once the game is closer to getting started. ;)
