Union College Dutchwomen 2015-16 thread

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2015-16 thread

One has to wonder why Union would suffer for so long the ignominy of the women's woeful record. With the men's national championship punctuating hockey at Achilles Center, the two hardly seem to represent the same school. It could have been worse; Cal Tech lost 207 straight in basketball between '96 and '07.

I think Asst Coach came in just this past year.

Doesn't matter if it's been one year or ten years. He should start fresh with two new assistants. Many new head coaches have cleaned house with much better records. There's no need to hang onto anyone from the past in this case, no matter if it's the recent past or longer. Starting fresh would be the best course of action.

SLIGHTLY different situation. Caltech is the pre-eminent nerd school in the country, has traditionally had no focus on athletics to win but to participate (which is somewhat refreshing in this day and age) and does so at the D3 level, and does little recruiting in any sports. Also, I think their baseball team may have had a longer losing streak.....yikes!

I would say Ali Boe has to go - too long an association with the program and Barcomb. I think Sciba should evaluate Cobb and make a decision - I'm not sure in this case that cleaning house is necessary as he has only been there 1 year - some minimal continuity may be a benefit.

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2015-16 thread

The AD originally said they wouldn't fire her because she still had a contract and they wouldn't buy her out. My guess is they stuck to that position and Barcomb just unilaterally (with potentially some coaching) decided enough was enough and negotiated an exit. It is tough on the psyche to constantly be a whipping person for the worst program in the NCAA D1 and that has to wear on a person.

To the point of her involvement with USA Hockey and why she couldn't attract those players to Union, the involvement in USA Hockey is not a guarantee for recruiting but merely an opportunity that some are able to cash in n and some aren't. As another example, Jodi McKenna at Wesleyan was the USA U-18 head coach for a season (!!) and continues to struggle to attract players to Wesleyan.

Look at next season's roster and you'll see only one returning freshman from this year...that is the straw that broke the camel's back.
