Union College: 2016-2017

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

ADK per your point pretty hard to believe Novak played in 26 post season games. Carr & Bodie not surprisingly lead the pack for forwards and D. Pretty impressive numbers for Jooris, Ghost and Vech in just 3 years. Hopefully Vech and team can go deep in the playoffs to give Vech a chance to catch Carr. Some of these guys logged an awful lot of playoff action.

Novak's goal vs Vermont in 2014 tournament was awesome

Vechs goal vs BC was another highlight !

Hard to beat Ghost making those 3 or 4 saves while playing Patrick Roy vs Providence ...

Looks like Football may be back to its winning ways. All they needed was a good coach. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

I guess that we should assume that
Captain: Mike Vecchione
Alt. Captains: Jeff Taylor, Ryan Scarfo

We had got to have our big sophomore forwards, Dufour, Maier and Vidmar produce this year if we are going to see improvement.

I remember Coach Bennett discussing the great leadership qualities shown by Spencer Foo last year. Perhaps he may be an alternate captain. I'm hoping to see more of Joe Young as well after an impressive and brief showing once last year.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

It's always hard to know which players are playing injured so its hard to critique them. That being said, Taylor needs to return to the form of two years ago when he was playing alone side of Ghost. The blue line has got to step up and especially Taylor. With our new forwards, we might have 4 lines again that can score. I don't think we will ever see the again the tough defensive play we saw from yesteryear. Michigan, with their high-powered offense, will be a good test for us. I was hoping to see more from last years freshmen class. Maybe this year.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Michigan Scouting Report -
Huge raw talent - 11 new freshmen
- Weaker on Offense - lost 5 of 6 top scorers. Lost entire top line to the pro's along with starting goalie?
- Still have 1 or 2 game changers.
- Lost goalie - two freshmen competing?
- 9 New Freshmen but 5 are true freshmen (18)
- Much Deeper on Defense
- Michigan's Coach Red Berenson - they don't get any better.

We are going to face intense energy and enthusiasm and raw skill. Our freshmen will need to bring it as Michigan's surely will. In years past our upperclassmen carried the team until the freshmen kicked in. Will be interesting to see what happens.

It appeared that just about everyone was playing injured last year.. Many of the freshmen missed games, far to many to get into the flow or be consistent.. Hopefully they don't get beat to death in practice and miss game time this year

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Nice report but the main facts are;
- It's Michigan at home.
- It's Berenson behind the bench
- It's a whole new season
- it's the Upperclassmen (12 forwards that are not freshmen) - that need to bring the leadership, toughness and teamwork
- STAY OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX!!!

Highlights of the Michigan/Windsor game
http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hockey/recaps/100216aaa.html

As it has traditionally done in early exhibition games, Michigan utilized three goalies. Nagelvoort was smooth in stopping seven shots to go with his assist in the victory. Freshmen Hayden Lavigne (13 saves) and Jack LaFontaine (12 saves) both impressed in an open-ended game as each youngster came up with high-caliber stops. Lavigne had perhaps his finest save midway through the second period with a smooth kick save on Windsor's Tyson Ness' point-blank effort on a break-away. LaFontaine showed his ability with two nifty stops, including at the 15:17 mark of the third period as he denied Sebastian Beauregard's elevated one-timer on the door step.
