Union College: 2016-2017

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

By my count 29 points will do it for a top four finish if we beat Q.
Hard to believe that Vech & Foo both have 50 pts
plus.... Two great talents but we need the other guys to continue to step up and contribute.
Any more word on Sak ?

This year 28 points will not mathematically guarantee any team a top 4 finish. 30 points will.
A win or a tie makes it highly likely that we finish in the top 4 but does not guarantee it.
2 more wins guarantee us a top 4 finish and a week's rest and home ice.
4 more wins will earn us the Clearly Cup.

Are we hungry enough?

Actually, a win or tie vs Quinnipiac on Friday will clinch a top 4 finish. With 4 games left (8 possible points), Union is ahead of 5th place Qpac by 6 points and 6th place Clarkson by 9 points, so Clarkson can't finish ahead of or even tie Union. If Union ties Qpac, they'll have 28 points to Qpac's 22 and will own the tiebreaker with a win and tie vs the Bobcats.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

At the game last night. After a couple minutes of even play, it ended quickly. First time I've ever seen a linesman in the middle of the blue line throwing a check on Foo's first goal!!! Hysterical. Sat behind the D net for most of the goals, the U passing is incredible. So many goals were several passes and then into an open net. Not looking good for an Eastern NCAA game at 11 in the PWR, unless they move up in the ECAC playoffs. The drop after the Harvard loss was deadly.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Only saw it one other time Jeff Taylor as a freshman got blindsided by a linesman vs Cornell @ Lynah at the blue line which led to a break away goal.
Union still bounced back for the win......

I remember this game quite well as I was there in person. A friend of mine from around Philadelphia got to meet Paul Holmgren, who was Flyers GM at the time, and Ron Hextall, who would become the current GM a few months afterward. He was happy to say the least.

Any more word on Sak ?
Gazette reported a sighting of Sak in a knee brace that was result of an injury late in the SLU game (which I'm pretty sure we all can guess at what caused it). This sounds pretty serious and could be tricky, as don't want to bring him back too soon and risk losing him for the rest of the season.. but don't want him totally cold for the post-season. The rumor that we may not see Alex for the rest of the regular season may be accurate. Question is whether they continue to ride Kupsky or give Young a more serious look. Regardless of top 4, every point is important as want to avoid ending up in 4th or 5th and have a potential 2nd round matchup with Cornell, Qpac or SLU.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

For anyone who tracks such things - what would need to happen for Union to secure a top 4 finish by the end of the weekend, assuming that's mathematically possible to do in that timeframe?

A tie Friday would be enough, as that would keep Union 6 points up on Q, with 3 games to go (and Union would hold the tiebreaker over Q). A loss Friday and win Saturday wouldn't guarantee it, since Q and U would be tied head-to-head.

Maybe not.. I think there is a scenario with a 3-way tie involving Cornell that U could finish 5th, though its very complicated and I'll admit I haven't run every possibility. Bottom line is any combo of 3 points that Union gains & Qpac loses will guarantee top 4. A win over Q will do it, as would a Friday tie & Saturday win (or Q loss).

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

One game at a time folks!!! Quinnipiac comes first: the team should make sure they bring their A game for 60 minutes.
