Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

Is anyone going to the game? Does anybody care? Since we got swept by Miami, do we really suck? Will we ever learn to play on the small ice? Do hockey players get laid more than other students?

I plan on being there on friday and saturday. Let's hope they score some goals.

Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

You did see they were playing Union, right?

Thank you for making me look forward to this weekend SO MUCH MORE than I was before. Union will be a top 20 team in the nation this season. We've already cracked the top 20 in INCH's power rankings, one spot behind the great St. Cloud State: http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/5Polls/0910/polls_0803.htm

Many experts are picking us to be ranked around 5th in the ECAC. Know your **** before you trash our team.

I'm glad. I prefer to have people paying attention when they get punked.

There are almost 60 teams. Being in the top 1/3rd is hardly an accomplishment. But then again, I suppose you aren't a math major.

Many experts are picking us to be ranked around 5th in the ECAC. Know your **** before you trash our team.

Oooh, the vaunted ECAC. Obviously, you don't know your "****" if you think that scares a fanbase whose team was picked by "many experts" (that is, the coaches poll, the media poll, AND the USCHO writer) to finish 5th in the WCHA.

Let's dance, tough guy.

Umm 5th in the ECAC.... that's equivalent to what in the WCHA... 9th or 10th??

Union might be a good team this year but to use your ranking of 5th in the ECAC to show it is like choosing McDonald's as your career.

Excellent analogy if he's a Union student.

Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

Motzko is out recruiting so Gibbons is taking his place tonight on the coaches show. Gibbon's hinted he thought the Huskies out played them last weekend. I am not sure why he would say that even if he truly believes it. It just makes him sound like a whinner. I get the team played well and with a couple bonces it could have gone the other way, but that is hockey. The fact is they didn't get those bounces and lost two games.

Mike Gibbon's then went on to say it was a bad call that cost them the game saturday. I agree It was a ticky tac call, but there was still 12 minutes left in the game and if they would not of fell asleep after the face off and fallen behind 2-0 they still had a chance in that game. I know what he was trying to say, but man he sounded whinny..... I am pretty sure Motzko would not have said it the same way.

Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

Gibbons needs to stop crying, take the loss and move on.

As for Union, I think we should not take them light. There a better hockey team then what people think.

Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

I asked you first but I will answer your question anyways...

No, I do not think there going to get rolled but I don't think Huskies will kill them 7-0 or anything like that.

Neither do I. So where's the **** problem?

Red Cloud-

Since you opted to sink to the point of insulting my personal intellect, let’s turn the spotlight on yours, and the mediocre student body at St. Cloud which we at Union candidly refer to as “Our future employees.” Let me first start off by noting your academic selectivity rating, which, according to the Princeton Review, is hovering at 64/100. It doesn’t require a math major to realize that a 64, sir, is a “D.” Compare this, now, to our academic rating of “95.” I need not say more regarding this statistic. To further emphasize our school’s elite status, look no further than Forbes’ list of the top 600 colleges/universities in the nation. Forbes now ranks Union as the #26 school in the nation; a far cry, if you ask me, from your borderline community college which just makes the list at #599. St. Cloud State also accepts 78% of all applicants, meaning that unless you are a monkey, you will almost definitely be accepted. One more word of advice along these lines: According to Business Week, our graduates rank #11 in the country for graduate earnings, so unlike you, we neither need to save our breath nor our money.

With regards to your attack on the ECAC, let’s not forget that this past year, three of the top 10 teams in the country came from our division. Since I have little confidence in your intellectual competence, I will point out that 3 out of 10 equals 30%. Although Union was not included in this group, we were one bad period away from defeating Princeton (in the playoffs), one of the three teams that made the national tournament. Before you start bashing hockey divisions, and choosing to attend your own subordinate school, for that matter, I suggest you do more research on the caliber of both.

While I remain on the topic of your school, I’d like to inquire: Is there any purpose or significance to St. Cloud, Minnesota? Aside from that amazing hydroelectric dam, which can produce a whopping 9 megawatts of electricity, does your city, or your “flyover” Midwestern state in general contribute anything besides arctic wind currents to the rest of the country? That being said, why don’t you and your blue collar, public school idiots come down here to civilization and back up your **** with substance.

Thanks for directing your retort to Red Cloud. He earned it.

BTW: Your rambling post reads as if you are auditioning for the role of the whiny, know-it-all bar hound in a remake of the film Good Will Hunting. What do you think of them apples? :D

Re: Union at St. Cloud (10/16, 10/17) - Never Won vs. Never Been

wait wait wait... if we're going to get into some sort of ego match here. Let me ask you this. How many Union College players have won the stanley cup?How many currently play in the NHL? We're talking hockey here jerk! Sheesh comparing private schools to state schools is like comparing subway to caviar. They both will fill you up but one cost a heck of a lot less to do it. Just because we don't have daddies money to help us pay the astounding fees that your school charges(and the fact we're not legacies) doesn't mean we're somehow lower than you. Upstate New York is as cold and desolate as the midwest and you can thank St Cloud for that electrolux(or kenmore) fridge in your house, Granite counter tops, and Macgyver! You east coast pompous WASP! We're the FREAKING STATE OF HOCKEY! Minnesota consistently Ranks higher than most of the east cost for standard of living. We have 3m, The mayo clinic, IBM, Target, and Best buy. More uncorrupted natural beauty than anything out east has. UNION PLAYERS WISH THEY COULD BE IN THE WCHA!

Well, we're called "The Granite City." We supply a lot of granite to suppliers around the country...manufacturing things such as counter tops and tile and such. Since we're playing the "knowledge is power" game, I have some questions for you.

1. What city is Union in? For that matter...what STATE is it in?
2. Is it Union University? Union College? Just "Union?" If you are Union University, do you just go by UU?
3. Exactly what makes you think being a top 5 team in the ECAC makes Union relevant? That just means you're in a conference...one notch higher on the totem pole than UAH.

Thanks for directing your retort to Red Cloud. He earned it.

Except he went to RPI...making him smarter than anyone else in this thread. The witty "future employees" retort doesn't work there.

Here is something you need to learn about how colleges make money. Yes we let in a lot of dumb rednecks from the surrounding area, but we let them come here and pay to take basically high school level classes that do not count towards the credits needed to graduate (and maybe GPA..not sure) before they can take real college classes. See this way we only have to pay around $9000 per year vs your what 45-50k?

Also ya you have 3 teams in the "top ten" last year, but there are things wrong with this as proving strength also. First, the polls don't really mean anything. Second, last year was one of the worst years in a long time for the WCHA and yet we still had 3 of the "top ten" teams in the country beating your 5th 9th and tenth with 4th 7th and 8th.

So do you want to keep looking at polls to show your weak conferences "strength." oh ya for got to add if were going by polls the WCHA also had the 17th and 19th ranked teams, making a weak year for the WCHA have 5 of the top twenty teams in the country.
