Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Max. After a couple seasons where his ability (and specifically his hockey sense) has been questioned he is right back on track (since this summers international efforts) to looking like one of the elite players in his age group. He will be a pro soon - and if he continues at this rate he'll be a lock for the U20 team this December.

I wondered often last season how good the UNH PP could have been if they had a D who boasted a plus shot. His power, accuracy and ability to get anything through to the net is incredible. He is dominant from the point.

If you count the exhibition game he has 4 PPG and one PPA, already...

I would say two, 19 is young for a defenseman in the NHL. Not unprecedented but it is young.

5-2 Blackburn. Hard to believe this will be our first 5-0 start since ‘93 if we hold on

It's one or two - and depends on how valuable FLA (if they don't think he's an NHLer in 2018-19) would view a year against bigger, stronger and better men in the AHL versus another year dominating at the NCAA level. For the record the Panthers left DU star Henrik Borgstrom in college for a second season.

What might work most in UNHs favor is that he slipped in the draft...

Thank you Bucky...we are more than happy to have him for as long as possible! Go 'Cats!!

Yeah, if you're going to over recruit and pull offers you have to make sure you don't end up pulling the wrong offers. This one is clearly a big mistake for UW...

Watched the game on ESPN3. Not terribly pleased with the effort. Very sloppy in their own end and undisciplined given that they gave CC six PP. They’re fortunate CC is pretty bad. The positive is that they can move the puck offensively, something they have had real trouble doing the past few years. All stems from the defense where they have three guys who can carry the puck out of the zone. Speaking of which, what happened to.Wyse? According to the sideline report, it was his blood on the ice. We were promised a report but it never came. Oh well. Let’s start 6-0. We were told that would be the best start since the ‘93-‘94 season.

Agreed 100% on our offensive zone puck control. Miles ahead of last year, where it seemed like we were frantically trying not to lose the puck, as opposed to generating scoring chances.

I came not to expect much from the sideline reporter. The interview with Stewart was painful. Bring back Ellen Weinberg!!

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Will wonders never cease. I picked against them tomorrow night, having second thoughts now. Destiny??

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Sloppy in the defensive end. Bad penalties. Yes, they can move the puck offensively, which is fun to watch. But if they don't tighten up defensively, they are beatable tomorrow. And they could easily get run out of the rink by a more talented offensive team. Maybe that would do the team good. Not sure there's enough talent to win the big games without max effort.

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Agree. Nice score and win, but a bit sloppy. Gave up too many shots on goal, and took too many penalties (some of the bonehead variety). Tirone had another nice game but you cannot depend on that every night.

Remember though, this is a young team and a new coaching staff and is still jelling; as Belicheck has reminded us, you cannot expect perfection early in the season.

Gildon is obviously for real. I am hoping he stays for three years, but would not bet on it.

And oh yes; look who is #1 in the power ranking. Too early to mean much, but feels good nonetheless.

Gave up too many shots on goal...

It could have been worse! Denver put up an incredible 66 shots on goal during official play (71 if you count the additional 3-on-3 OT period) against Lake State tonight. The Laker goalie made 63 saves (67 if you...) to all but single-handedly earn his team a tie. DU did score during the 3-on-3 action for the 'win'...

Official shot totals were 66-17 DU, but just three goals a piece - Which should please all of the 'SOG mean nothing' aficionados in the room. Including the extra OT it was 71-17 DU...

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Impressed with majority of the play tonight. Pretty obvious defensive breakdowns lead to every CC goals. Should be easy to call out in the film room and correct. It was nice to see BVR convert on the breakaway after missing last Saturday night on a similar opportunity. Not sure how may years we will see out of Gildon if he keeps performing at this level. His wrist shot is nothing short of "SICK" Seems to place it better than I do even on my XBOX. Wonder if there is any thought in Umile or Souza's mind about saving the eligibility of some of our freshman who have not seen action so far this season. Especially with the potential for Gildon to leave prior to his scheduled departure.

Overall good win. Umile, Souza, and Stewart should have an easy time solving the golf scoring issues of tonight before puck drop tomorrow. Looking forward to another game on ESPN3 tomorrow night. Glad to see C. Miller out there tonight making plays. Curious to see who the odd man out is going to be when Grasso is healthy. Must be a great feeling for Umile to have not having to rush Grasso back into play before he is 100% healthy.

PS Sato is back on the roster for UNH. Must have straightened out his eligibility.

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

I'd imagine when Grasso returns he takes Cefalu's place in the line-up and rejoins his classmates and 2016-17 line mates. With Miller dropping down and centering MacAdams and Fregona.

It sounds like the plan was for Grasso to play with McNicholas and Salvaggio, but with that line off to a good start as is, he can instead skate with the other two sophs and create some real nice depth.

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Honestly...did anyone expect this start? Great to see the commentary here! Here's hoping and expecting a better overall game tonight with higher energy, less turnovers and penalties. Have to def give DT props didn't realize CC put up that many dreaded SOG's.

While it's meaningless at this point to hit #1 in thepairwise feels awesome!!

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

As per Union Leader story Wyse in concussion protocol and Eiserman re-injured his knee last night...ugh.

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

All this talk about SOG is interesting!

I was at the game and I gotta tell ya, Tirone came up big on many SOG. Gildon impressive night but Tirone was huge! Hope they tighten up in their own end tonight.

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

600 wins for Umile looks very attainable at this point. If anything, he has his teams finishing strong late in the season. Not many saw this start to the season coming.

You are the first person I've ever heard saying UNH finishes stronger in the back half of the season. I hope you are right. Undefeated! 😀
