If not for BU's Faustian deal for a NC and goal with 15 seconds remaining in the following game we'd have made the FF. The thinking at the time was that these games showed the younger players what it took to play deep into the post season. Maybe not top 10, but pretty darn exciting.

I think I have that on DVD (copied from my VHS tape) somewhere in storage, I wonder if I can dig it up one of these days and get a clip of it....

* Bobby Gould's game winner in the '79 ECAC Finals, late in the 3rd period (17:17 by #17, IIRC?);
* Haydar's aforementioned OT GWG against Michigan in the '99 Worcester Regionals;
* Saviano's 3rd period goal (or was it Collins?) from the top of the slot in the '02 HE Finals vs. UMaine;
* Tyson Teplitsky's (double?) OT goal in the '03 HE Finals vs. BU (thanks, Ryan Whitney);
* Eric Boguniecki's (double?) OT goal in the '94 HE Quarters to eliminate BC in the final game at Snively (personal sentimental fave for me for multiple reasons, as you can imagine :) )

Sorry for my uncertainty on some of the finer details, including the '03 FF Semis win over Cornell ...

Your list is a good start for sure. The 3-2 OT win over Harvard in the 2005 NCAA Regional I was at was a thriller! Winnik scored the OT winner!

That would be very much appreciated! I remember watching it live - and I can still picture it perfectly (I think) - but I don't know that I've seen video since the day of the game. I've looked...

Seems hard to conceive, but a sweep this weekend could put us in a position to take full advantage of home ice and head into the QF's with 17 wins and a .500 record. Doesn't seem plausible, given the tone of the season. I know Chuck is about to unleash on me with "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts", (and I'd be in full agreement, BTW), but it still came as a surprise to me that it's even a possibility.

On another note, 'cats are lodged firmly in a Hoky/Snively65 sandwich at #35 in the PWR. Happy days!!

Sign me up for your memory strengthening/advanced retention classes. Holy cow. With the exception of the '79 game, I'm pretty sure I either attended or watched most/all of the above, and I could never trot all those out off the cuff. Impressive.

Haydar's shorty clearly my highlight. Hemingway's for a little flash value. At the time, I thought Sean Collins, 21 seconds into the semi at Xcel, would be one for the memory bank, but alas....

Guessing I was in the same pub as you and e.cat, drowning sorrows that day before my Michigan buddy watched his title hopes get squashed later that evening.

Who knew, who knew...;) It has been quite a season and it ain't over yet...! Mack is coming to UNH with 6 straight losses and a tie but they look to be a very big challenge nonetheless. Can our 'Cats bring 2 more games of consistent play...will the D show up for a full 60...will my HE 'go to' team fulfill their obligation and soundly defeat UMaine :D? Heck, this could be a weekend that in 10 years we talk about fondly or... Either way, it's been fun / gratifying actually reading things like "UNH is peaking at the right time" and "UNH's record is deceiving" (DQuinn after splitting with the 'Cats). Yep..maybe the boys have arrived and just in the nick of time.

On Haydar's 99 final goal, let us not forget that Maine had scored a goal to go up 3-0, but then it was reversed because of a "toe in the crease" rule (think Brady tuck rule vs. Raiders). Without this, all would have been lost. Call reversed, Haydar pops out of the box, receives pass, walks in on Alfie and roofs it from in close. So sweet and obviously game changing. In OT, if Sadowsky had some hands, or UNH some luck, he puts it away after sidestrepping off the right side dot faceoff which still just BARELY missed over Alfie's shoulder. Couldas, Shouldas, Wouldas......

How about Fortney's goal in ManchVegas with 0.1 seconds left vs. NoDak? And then LeBlanc's game winner 45 seconds into OT.

Never any doubt in my mind about this season; we have the other eight teams ahead of us in HEA right where we want 'em. However, Maine has been our nemesis all year, outscoring us 18-11, with our only win in Portland, if I am not mistaken. But, despite losing to Maine in Durham and Manchvegas, I would still prefer that the first round be played at Lake Whitt, so the Cats need to sweep the Warriors this weekend and send some positive vibes to Gilles and the Friars.

That is pretty funny on our PWR, as Bentley was ahead of the Cats for a long time until this past weekend, when the Falcons were only able to manage a couple of ties at Army. But, who would have thunk that the Dutchmen would fall off so far this season, despite having a breakout season by their sophomore forward whose name will not be spoken?

Chuck, I also put Boguniecki's game winner in the final game at Snively on top of my list, with all others not even close as they duke it out for second. Four and a half periods is a long time for any hockey game, and those shifts were getting incredibly short in the second OT. I cannot remember who flipped the puck out towards the neutral zone, but still remember Boguniecki reaching deep to catch up with it and leave everyone else on both teams in the dust. I seem to remember him quoted at the time saying that he did not have another one of those rushes in him for that night, so the puck had to go in. Little did I know what would happen over the next 4+ years for UNH hockey.

If I remember correctly, Jason Krog, of all people also had a fantastic OT chance, from right on the doorstep, kicked away by Michaud.

Another goal I'll never forget - Tom Nolan's OT winner in the Whittemore Center opener (Over, I believe, top-ranked and eventual National Champion Boston University). Boy, did that arena used to get loud...

Ryan Whitney scored the HEA championship game winner in 2003. Technically he played for BU though.

That 7-2 loss to Maine was a head scratcher. Never fully got why Ayers was so off. Somebody mentioned, IIRC, that he was fighting the flu!

The whole team was off. Maybe the worst thing that happened to UNH was scoring the opening goal so early ... sadly, this game tends to rank pretty high on the "exhibits list" for Coach Umile's detractors, as in "can't get a team properly prepared for the big ones", much less "can't win the big ones" outright. The Notre Dame loss is another (and of course Niagara and RIT), and then there was a similar early round NCAA blowout loss to Denver in the mid-'90's (I think?) which may have been the one that started it all. :(

I would add a couple other goals to the list...

Dan Correale's...whoops I mean Dave Lumley's goal to beat Brown in the 1977 ECAC quarterfinals. Can't overstate the importance of this one. UNH had been bounced in the quarters four straight seasons, twice on home ice. Getting over that hump was huge...

And of course Gould's goal in double overtime three nights later. Still can't believe that game was 9-9 after regulation, yet nobody could score in the first OT

Yup. Took a major ribbing from some of my inufferable UVM fan friends on that Denver drubbing. On the flip side of Haydar's highlight reel goal in the title game in '99, he came unglued in the 7-2 loss in St. Paul. I think he had a frustration slashing penalty in that game.

At least the pub was good where we met for the first time. The bartender was hot also IIRC😆

Which Notre Dame loss? I thought that both of them were bad, although I suppose that the 7-3 drubbing in 2008 was worse than the 2-1 loss in 2011. All the more reason to rid them from Hockey East, now!

E.cat, I agree on Winnik's OT redirect of Aikens' shot (or was it a pass?) knocking Harvard out of the NCAAs for the fourth year in a row in 2005 was a big one, but thought that Coliins, Teplitsky, and Regan were the stars of that game.
