True, but you could say they same thing about Freddy Meyer. I've heard more than a few Wildcat fans lamenting that the kid from NH chose BU.

And you know if Meyer wore the blue and white he would have been a huge fan favorite.

Freddy Meyer was another human lightning rod in the USCHO past. And yeah, huge in-state miss for UNH. :(

What ever happened to Gibber? He was a pretty steady-handed reasonable guy in the midst of lunatics (myself included at the time) lobbing bombs.

He was kind of our Chairman of the Thread back when I joined and set a pretty great example.

Hey HR - you going to both games of the 'Mack series? My better half and I are making the trip back to the States and we are going to take in Saturday's game. Would love to meet the fellow pom-pom holder!

You bet and would be thrilled to meet you and the better half☺️!!! Who else is going could make it a UNH reunion of sorts!'

I suspect that eventually, sad as it may be, we all get worn out by the "almost tradition" ..... I also suspect that it will gradually happen to the current new board members .... also sad.

Transformations do not have to be glacial ..........

He got a photography job that requires him to travel a lot. I miss seeing my friend/birthday buddy regularly

Chuck, your Godfaddah thread is something I still remember and talk about. I remember asking you to include me in it. The Godfather was on last month and it made smile thinking about your thread. Good stuff. I miss those days.

And just to quickly complete the tale of DD for HR, in the 2008 HE semi, DD takes an assinine penalty in the third OT (or was it the 2nd but carried over?). BC scores during the ensuing PP and doesn't lose again that year. UNH had won all three regular season meetings, and led 4-1 halfway through the semi. Oh woe is us.

Arrrggghhhh! Seems like yesterday. Then, a week later we get blown out 7-3 by Notre Dame in first game at the regional in Colorado Springs. We should have been at the Pepsi Center in Denver that April.

That's one of your less subtle *nudges* to a certain someone, sonar. Tough winter, eh? ;)

Read posts #451 & 452 for evidence that it has been only one of many tough winters .... with a few teasers in between. Rah rah ....

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

It's really too bad to see how bad things have gotten for UNH this season. Best of luck in turning things around next year.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Not to break up the awesome trip back through USCHO time (which I have seriously enjoyed!!!) thought this was very encouraging for how well our #18 has played:

Poturalski's Success: Freshman forward Andrew Poturalski has 23 points on the year on 11 goals and 12 assists. He is the first rookie to have at least 20 points in a season since now senior Grayson Downing recorded 23 points as a freshman in 2011-12. His next point will make him the highest scoring freshman for UNH since 2007-08 when James van Riemsdyk had 34 points as a rookie and Danny Dries had 28.

Ok, back to the cool stories...

Coincidence that he is the ONLY UNH recruit from the past 7 years to make the USHL top-40 scoring list? From my 2013 post:

Re: past results/future performance.

No current UNH player has finished higher than 40th in USHL scoring. The highest ranked player is Goumas (40th), and not surprisingly, he leads UNH in scoring. (Of interest, Mike Vecchione is currently 14th in USHL scoring.)
Only one has earned any sort of USHL honor (Brett Kostolansky, all-rookie team).

Greg Burke 256th in USHL scoring
Brett Kostolansky 144th
Scott Pavelski 80th
Dalton Speelman 43d
Kevin Goumas 40th
Eric Knodel 127th
Nick Sorkin 61st
Justin Agosta 164th
Jeff Silengo 164th
Casey Thrush 82nd
Jay Camper 198th
Maxim Gaudreault 79th
Jamie Hill 54th

The law of averages would dictate that in 4 years (160 USHL top-40 spots), and only 30 or so competitive DI teams, a team would have someone higher, but UNH managed not to.
Only a crazy person would expect a team with that sort of talent procurement to be competitive in a major division.
Update:
2013
Kelleher -168th in scoring
Cleland -63rd in scoring
Maller -331 in scoring

2014
Andrew Poturalski - 6th in scoring
Shane Eiserman - 48th
Jason Salvaggio -111th in scoring

Oh, to cheer you all up about the pipeline:
Patrick Grasso - 50th in scoring
Ara Nazarian - 139 in scoring
Jake Ryczek - 199 in scoring
Jason Kalinowski, 0 goals, - 254 in scoring
Aaron O'Neill, 1 goal -363 in scoring
Jason Masonius - 301 in scoring

So, if you are keeping track
7 years
280 "top forty" spots
1 UNH recruit

Don't cry for a proud 66 year old man who refuses to see a problem

Sobering post, Watcher. From your 2013 post, some of those USHL recruits were clearly busts, but some overachieved when they got to Durham; so hope springs eternal for more of the latter, despite the laws of probability.

I actually met Hank at a BC-Harvard game at Bright once... not what I expected. When he dropped that on Nate91b... oh boy did that leave a mark.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Alumni news: TvR skated with the 'Hawks today first time since his injury! Might be awhile before he plays but glad to see him out there...
