UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Wow, what a period. Holy mackerel. So many missed opportunities, including 1:56 of a 5-3, and a CLEAR shorty bid for Downing stoned by Gillies. But as the period comes almost to a close, GD pots one while on a delayed penalty with 12 seconds left in period. 1:48ish PP to start 3rd.

2-1 PC.

Winning the SOG count, btw.

Wow.... Feels like we shot ourselves in the foot. Wasted a generally strong performance from DT. 30-save night, only letting two PPG's get by him. He did have a weird little escapade into the corner during a PC rush, and a bit of a belly-flop/loss of stick later on, but I think we would all take a .938 save % every day and twice on Sunday.

We seem to be skating with much more confidence than we were earlier this season. We are a lot less tentative in our own end, and move the puck better on offense, even if we don't necessarily have a gaggle of sharpshooting finishers. Kelleher is a blast to watch, and man do I hope we retain Pesce. He and Cleland impress me.

Sadly, will be following along online looking for score updates from the Atlanta airport tomorrow night. Headed back south.

Have a real safe trip so glad we got to meet! Really my head is so fried right now have nothing to say for a change. Wishing everyone well if it ends tomorrow.
Ps So Snively65 with your Bentley boys winning where does that put you tomorrow? Congrats by the way...

So, I go to the JAR tonight to get my Falcons back on the winning track, and my Wildcats come unglued and take way too many penalties; I think that the Cats jumped 10 places in the Skating Mother Teresa's category tonight. Anyway, no one said that the trip to the Garden would be easy this season. NICC and UVM also won tonight, so three spots still up for grabs tomorrow.

Yes, safe travels back to the wrong side of the equator. Did you find anything of interest during your visit?

Agree 100% on Pesce (and Cleland). Disagree on the save percentage stat. All that matters is they scored 2 and UNH scored only 1. Not saying he played poorly (don't know - didn't watch), but this is a playoff game, and you are playing to win - not to post impressive save percentage stats. Gotta find a way to let up one less than the other guys and advance, or else the season is over. Simple. The only way you can guarantee that is saving everything that comes your way. As a goalie, you can't have the mentality that it's about stats, and just shrug your shoulders, throw your hands up and say "hey, I posted a .938, so I did my part".

I'm sorry, I don't want this to be a personal attack ... but it's stuff like this that drives me crazy.

If Tirone (or Gillies) posts a .975 save percentage tomorrow night lose 1-0 ... do you think they are happy?

There is no consolation prize for being the goalie with the best save percentage.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Ok... Now that I've got my head back on my shoulders I will say that yup we came totally unglued it seemed and didn't play with composure ...we got rattled early on took too many penalties and frankly felt they were more relaxed and focused last night . Maybe that comes with experience; but hey you see BC and UVM back at it tomorrow too!!

I know teams don't always score on 5 on 3's but we didn't look good in any of our PP's let alone that one. PC threw a physical in your face kind of game and we could not adjust. Losing Brett and Casey T for what seemed like forever didn't help either with their game misconducts. Those guys are leaders obviously and we really needed them.

Gillies was Gilllies and wow that one off the post what a great save still he wasn't the deciding factor when all was said and done.. I mean not many quality scoring chances like the night before. I could also whine about the officiating but who cares haha.

It is what it is and I'm sure it will be interesting tomorrow. Go 'Cats!

Chuck - I think we often say the same thing in two different ways. My point was simply that when you have a guy back there saving close to 94% of what's coming at him, ya gotta step it up in front of him and get the job done. I started the whole post saying that we shot ourselves in the foot. Dumb penalties, missed opportunities (5-3, missed wide-open breakaway, etc.), make waste of a very solid effort in net.

In no way am I suggesting that DT skated off the ice happy, or even satisfied, last night.

Hey thanks, Aerman! Yep, we found a great place hidden away in Dublin - now it's down to decision-making.

Great meeting you - see you next year, assuming we don't somehow make the FF this April. :-). Happens to be my next trip up, by chance.

You could hear the UNH cheers on the feed last night - I assume that the Pom-pom was leading the way???

I am with you, DC. I cannot blame Tirone for the two PPGs in just over two minutes time. Cats need to stay out of penalty box and score more than one goal tonight, if they want a Garden visit next weekend.

Haha actually gave my last Pom Pom to some little girl at the last home game! Hopefully you could not hear me flipping out at the officials 😝!!
Tonight there will undoubtedly be more PC students as their Spring Break is over. I'll be home wringing my hands and hoping for the best!!

Regardless of what happens I'm very proud of how far this team came and enjoyed meeting more of you guys this season. Go 'Cats!!!

No question about that! Frustration cost us big time...Have been alittle surprised by the play of Pesce these past few games; not to be critical but he's ended up in the box with two big penalties for rough play etc. Maybe he's trying to show Carolina he can dish it out (and given what PC was throwing at them last night I really don't fault him) . We need you out there Brett!! Crash that net 'Cats gotta get in those dirty areas if we expect to beat Jon G...

You might be onto something there, Ref. D-men are a hot commodity in the NHL now; just ask the Bruins.

And, we do not have all the infighting that they have over on the PC thread. :D

Nice video summary, C-H-C.

I did not realize that the second PPG last night was from so far out. So, if Tirone had not been screened, his SV% on the weekend might be even higher than 0.961. And, that Gillies save on Downing was also amazing. I cannot get to Prov'd tonight, but will follow from the JAR.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Chuck undoubtedly thrilled with the goings on at Tsongas so far...

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

A UNH sports reporter is hinting on Twitter there will be a "big surprise" in the line up tonight...what does THAT mean!?!

UPDATE: guess Ryan Randall takes Dylan Maller's place. Whew...thought it was going to be something a lot "bigger" . #BoughtTheHype
