Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

Ahem, may I have your attention please, head cheerleader reporting that Warren Foegele is Hockey East's Rookie of the Week...woot! Most likely for his bullet of a goal and overall 3 pt. weekend..woot. More where that came from. Matias Cleland also got a 'player of the week' mention with his goal and assist Sat. night. Congrats!

Following their progress on Facebook and Twitter thanks to Dan Parkhurst. They are in Ohio, just ahead of the storm. They will have to change buses in Buffalo. A contingent of UNH fans rented cars and are also driving home.

I never want to do that again. Ok, I tried Notre Dame in the league. I don't like it.

Well done, 29; your fan group is a huge credit to UNH. Glad that you got home safely. Trust that the ND fans did not use the "drive home safely" chant.

That was a long unexpected journey. ND is not a bus trip for anyone wondering. That team bus would have been heaven compared to the very expensive, tiny rent a car though. I bet they got to sleep on the drive home. And no the ND fans did not use that chant but the one behind me did so graciously dump his mustard filled burger on my jacket. Not gonna lie, not sure if I'll make that trip again or not. Can we just vote them out of the league already?

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

This came up on another thread last spring. According to a ND fan Jackson was against joining HEA.

Notre Dame was originally going to join the NCHC. I have the documentation to prove it. They were listed as a founding member. But the NCHC refused to let Notre Dame negotiate their own TV deal, insisting that they live with the meager deal the conference eventually ended up negotiating with the CBS Sports Network. Hockey East had no issue with it, one of the reasons Notre Dame ended up where they ended up. The administration has always been more fascinated with the east coast than with the midwest. It's why they worked years ago for a chance to join the Big East when they finally came to the conclusion that independence in sports only works for football. They never seriously considered it in hockey, despite what was written in that Observer article or what was stated when this was all unfolding a few years ago.

I don't have any proof that Jackson was against joining Hockey East, but he did seem to strongly hint during this process he favored the NCHC. Hell, just look at his coaching and you can see how reluctant he is to change and how hard it is for him to adjust. the NCHC would have meant a little less of an adjustment. It also would have put Notre Dame on an even travel situation with the vast majority of the league. I don't expect anyone to have even a shred of sympathy for Notre Dame when it comes to travel in HE, but I would expect people to also accept that the travel burden Notre Dame, and Notre Dame alone, faces is nothing like any other HE team deals with (normally) within conference play and it could certainly play a part in how their season unfolds.

The main reason many Notre Dame fans don't like HE has nothing to do with the conference itself or any of the teams. Or that we are basically a .500 team in this league. Let's face it, for the vast majority of the existence of hockey as a varsity sport the team has sucked. But road games, once in easy reach for the vast majority of games are now an impossibility for all practical purposes. Going to the conference finals is also a non-starter now for most people. The whole UNH community saw this weekend why that is an issue. There are also no real rivals outside of BC and we were going to continue to play BC as often as the schedules allowed anyway. Despite the great hockey history of schools like BU, Maine or UNH, it will take years for those teams to equal Michigan and Michigan State in terms of what the vast majority of fans were used to. Throw in Ohio State or teams like Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Miami -- all teams Notre Dame has been playing since the 1980s or earlier and all within easy driving distance, and it is easy to see why Notre Dame fans wished for something other than what was decided.

I will admit to rooting for ND against BC at the Denver Pepsi Center in 2008, as I thought it would be cool if Jeff Jackson won the NC with a different team, as unpopular as I was with HEA fans there. But, I think that ND belongs in the NCHC, which has turned into an excellent conference.

I will admit to rooting for *fill in the blank* against BC at *any place on God's green earth* in *any day I'm fortunate to draw breath*, as I thought it would be cool if *any random reason you can possibly envision*, as unpopular as I was with *Baldwin the Seagull or any other high ranking BC administrator* there.

But, I think that ND belongs in the NCHC, which has turned into an excellent conference and is where they belong, can they bring BC with them while they're at it? :D

sorry guys, just had to get that off my chest, can we get Rutgers or Columbia into the league instead?

For those that missed this, sounds like perhaps some buyer's remorse around South Bend

Ah whoops. Appears Mcloskey was no angel after all. Wonder what she did to prompt that kind of reaction ? Yikes

Long story short....the player in question made a defensive blunder, leading to a goal by the other team (which was Ohio State). Coach M. reprimanded her when she returned to the bench, she yelled back at him (reportedly with f-bombs), and well...things apparently got nasty after that.

Should change the title of this thread to "UNH Wildcats 2014-2015 - The Year of the Diversion Agreement"

Speaking of which - who made out better in their respective legal wars - DeSmith or McCloskey?

Or

"UNH Wildcats 2014-2015 - You can't make this stuff up!!"

Wow....Welp there it is...wonder if there is a civil case on the horizon...

In other news, Dylan Maller has a foot injury (you had been asking Darius) and Maxim Gaudreault has a slight shoulder dislocation according to UNH Wednesday presser..
Thank you!
