Chuck's SOG hypothesis prevails in third, but not first and second periods.
I'm pretty sure Chuck's SOG hypothesis does not work in the NHL.

A good friend of mine that's an ardent 'Cat and B's fan has said the same all season long...but I do love Torey K regardless of his ineptness![]()
When was the last game in which Krug scored a goal? He has had a really tough second half; lost confidence in his shot, I think. But, unlike UNH, they had a good blue line, but then let their two best D-men leave, and their oldest and slowest stay. :-(

I think you might find out otherwise. IIRC back when Gretzky's Edmonton teams were winning their Cups in the late '80's, they were being outshot overall by their opposition. And that's one of the all-time greatest offensive hockey machines any of us are likely to see.
Give me early goals/leads in games, I'll give you the SOG's, and I'll take my chances with that every time.

On a different note ... this was supposed to be the weekend I finally returned to Stade Olympique up in Montreal to see my old stomping grounds for the first time since the 'Spos left for DC after the 2004 season finale. Unfortunately, some events beyond my control found me unable to make the trek north of the border. But the numbers up there keep on growing - although the exchange rate isn't going in the right direction for our Canadian neighbors- so the outlook beyond these annual early April "feel good" moments is undetermined.

Vividly remember catching the 2002 home opener between the 'Spos and Marlins (and their uber evil carpetbagging owner Jeffrey Loria) at Le Stade as the first stop on my trek to the Twin Cities for the Frozen Four weekend. Montreal came back from a 4 run deficit late to beat the C-Bags to get what would be a surprisingly exciting season underway on the right foot. Left Montreal late amidst falling snow, headed west along the Trans-Canada towards Windsor, made a memorable crossing through quizzical customs officers over to Detroit at midday Wednesday ... and eventually pulled into our hotel outside St. Paul late Wednesday evening. My *reward* for this insane fandom was to watch UNH gack up a monstrous 7-2 (I think?) hairball to UMaine in the semis. Pretty sure I met up for the first time with e.cat at some local watering hole afterwards to bemoan the 'Cats' fate. Stuck around to watch the rest of the weekend's worth of hockey, which was actually great stuff in a great facility. Hard to believe that was 14 years ago now.
No more baseball in Montreal, and no more top level D-1 program in Durham. And DRW staying alive for the playoffs only because their competition (Boston and Philly) lost their games today. That race will largely be settled by this time Thursday evening, and I suspect my Wings will be the "odd men out" when the ice chips finally settle.

A little more recent analysis might be appropro, don't ya think? Blame Snively65!![]()
Yesterday's game fairly recent, no?
BHawks: 19/2, 12/4, 3/0, for 34/6 total SOG/G
Bruins: 8/0, 21/2, 17/2, for 46/4 total SOG/G
Krug lead both teams with 10 SOG (0 G), vs Kane 4 SOG (3 G)
TvR 2 SOG in 20:26 min (0 G) (to make relevant for a UNH thread)
Not sure what a one off tells us in the larger scheme of things especially since both teams abandoned team D for stretches in this game! Tuukka was pulled no?
There's a concept.... (to make relevant for a UNH thread)
And, speaking of DU, Red Berenson coming back for his 33rd season as HC; 835-407-89, 0.661.
But then we'd have (((three))) early departures.Well, if Umile was still turning out elite NCAA offenses, consistent national tournament appearances and bringing in recruiting classes consisting of FIVE NTDP prospects, two USHL stars and the son of an NHLer he could stay too...
... and Hey Sacco's dad was an NHLer!
We then determined that there we had almost 85 years of season ticket holdings between us ...... not one of us is going to renew his ticket for next year and the only commonality in our opinions was what only be called the "hangingonness" of the current HC.
But then we'd have (((three))) early departures.
Weren't the 'cats leading MI in consecutive NCAA appearances not so long ago?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe UNH had the 2nd longest streak going topped only by Michigan and UNH's streak ended before theirs did.
But, the streaks were within a year of one another, I think. Pretty amazing.
Looked it up
Michigan 22 years 1991-2012
UNH 10 years 2002-2011
Still amazing. I think all UNH fans would like to see a streak get started again.
