Goalie Coach Mike Buckley attended many games this season and was in the locker room before games and during intermissions. The founder of Goaltending Development Services and goalie development coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been the long-time coach of Brian Foster, Casey DeSmith, Jeff Wyer, Daniel Tirone, and Mike Robinson - who has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for UNH and was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 3rd round (86th overall) of the NHL Draft last summer.

It's nice to see you on the board Mike! Appreciate your insight into what's happening at the U. At the 'Mack games I noticed they mentioned this goalie coach in the coaching credits...I knew our guys were working out with him. Man, I give these kids so much credit..it isn't easy...amazing what they do out there!

Well we knew it was coming but thought we'd get one more year. It's a two year entry level contract assuming he'll start at the AHL level and go from there. Good luck Andrew and thank you!

Good for Poturalski - he's ready and he deserves it - $150,000 richer with another $140,000 and maybe MUCH more over the next two years. Poturalski, Pesce and Foegel - the future core of the Carolina Hurricanes?

And, Noah Hanifin. Is Nathan Gerbe still with the 'Canes? With an enforcer to protect him, I would not be surprised to see Pots play on the big club next season.

So, back to the drawing board with construction of two scoring lines on the Cats next season. Or, better yet, three lines with more balance?

I'm happy for Poturalski, but I feel bad for Kelleher and I'm definitely disappointed as a UNH fan...

Eiserman - McNicholas - Kelleher
Vela - Nazarian - Fregona
Kelleher - Blackburn - Salvaggio
BVR/Grasso - Miller - Hill
Cefalu - Sacco

It just isn't the same...

Same. What comes to mind as a "top" line next season? Kelleher saluted him today and yes he will be missed on the ice. I love the idea of him, Pesce and Foegele all playing together as you said.

Who knows. I edited my post below with a quick guess. I tried to plan for some scoring balance across two lines - but the pieces just don't fit together like they did before. I'd imagine at this point that we'll see a lot of mixing and matching early next season. Kelleher is the only sure thing now - so a lot depends on the summer development of Vela, Nazarian, McNicholas & Eiserman and which freshman can make the biggest impact (likely Fregona & Blackburn). A guy like Conway sure would be nice to have now...

Although pure speculation was brining in Sacco perhaps to fill this loss or is Sacco coming in for Foegele and the other vacancies?

I'd agree with others who have suggested Sacco is coming to fill the void left by Bourque and Kalinowski. He won't turn out to be a Foegel or a Poturalski. Well disappointing, this opens the door for BVR and Grasso to get a lot of PT. Hopefully, next year's FR and SO can get a lot of experience and grow together. It might be better for the long-term rebuild of UNH hockey. They just need to fill out the classes behind next year's...

When you say he won't turn out to be a Foegel, does that mean he won't quit midseason to go play Junior?

I may not be psyched with what we saw from Poturalski since January, and am less concerned about his departure than most, but he at least deserves better than to be compared with that quitter.

I am curious why Foegele's name has been spelled without the last 'e' this entire thread? But, as far as his quitting, we speculated on the previous thread that he was probably frustrated sitting on the pine while the senior "checking" line got so much more 5-5 ice time and the first minute-plus on the PP for the first half of the season, on their way to their combined minus 38 on the season. Prophetic, as he left after five games, but the stupid coaching decisions continued for at least another eight games after he left. Yes, I know the adage "quitters never win," but in his case, I think that he had had enough, after spending most of his freshman year in section 108 (or wherever). Perhaps the incoming freshman forwards will get more ice time this coming season.

Haha actually I had to look it up how to spell his last name (WF) at one time my phone had it on autocorrect but after awhile....Anyway..he's certainly flourished since he left. To me everything happens for a reason as hard as it might be to understand. As per the Pots loss, this too, shall pass but we will have to find a way to make up for those points to be sure. At the same time, I know other teams do pretty well with 'balanced scoring' as you say so UNH will have to get creative and fast. I have a lot of faith in the guys left and to those coming in. I hope they are hungry! Noticed other players going the way of the pro leagues tonight, Maine's Swavely being one.

He played 34 games last year as a frosh, so he didn't spend THAT much time up in the stands.

I'm with you on the senior checking/first line nonsense.

You can bet your bottom dollar young BvR and CyK will get plenty of time, the others, we'll see ...

Ok Chuck here's the drill... we are going to refer to young Kelleher as CHKell. That's how it's done online. But I do kind of like CyK....goes with TyK....hmmm, what to do?!? :confused: :D
