To OT. Gave up 4 in the 3rd and UMass clanged one with about a minute left that would have won it

6-6 final. Soul-searching time.

Any bets on Clark tomorrow night?!?! 😳

The "March to 600" looks like it could get complicated. And DT gets (and fails at) another chance. Wow.

Blowing a five (5) goal lead to the *mighty* UMass Minutemen is not an encouraging sign.

Unless Clarkie was partying with CDS on Labor Day '14 weekend, he's gotta start tomorrow night.

I've already lost all my money betting on Clark starts this year, but if he doesn't tomorrow than Umile has clearly lost his mind. The stubbornness and failure to adjust from the UNH coaching staff is the biggest reason this program is where it is now. Period.

Watching DU every weekend - and BC tonight in the springs just amplifies how far away UNH truly is from being truly relevant again. Nice watching Dudek and Sanford skate in supporting roles at BC (they'd be major impact kids at UNH)- just two of MANY New Hampshire kids UNH has let get away...

Tyk's line has 11 points...11...and we can't win this game!! Thrilled for Dan C's Hattie and Chris Miller getting his first. That's all I got.

"It's not about getting the best players, it's about getting the right players" - former Associate Head Coach Lassonde circa 2006 :rolleyes:

This chitshow known as UNH hockey is getting more comical each week, with one "clanged post" away from what arguably would have the biggest choke in UNH history. Like the proverbial leopard, Umile will never change his spots.

Glad that Correale got his hattie.

Well, lost in the defensive woes is the fact that we are basically a one line team, offensively! Umile wants to play his dependable and defensively responsible players first. how's that working for us??

McNicholas should be skating a regular shift - let alone be playing. Put McNicholas between Foegel and Eiserman and you add a slick pass-first playmaker to two hard-charging net crashes with limited creating skills. Might make a nice line - and a second scoring option? Could McNicholas' defense have possibly hurt us tonight??

The D has been average at absolute best - is Chanter that much worse??

It's also time to play the seniors in the fourth line role that suits them.

But let's just stick with what we've run out - that square peg has to get through this round hole if we keep pounding, right...?

You mean like that alleged "first line" of seniors that were all minus for the night?

Totally hear you I have been wondering about Chanter and also agree McNick needs to play. Pesce was a huge loss but still we won games last year when he was out what, 9 games? Surely we can play better than this defensively.

Like e.Cat says you gotta win the games you should and we let this one get away. Imagine they are breathing a sigh of relief in Minute Man Land. I know we should just take the HE point and move on but..this one is grating at me. Onto the Dutchmen also tied tonight v Michigan. Waiting to see how Parker W sees this one. Find a way 'Cats!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

Tuning in just in time for the radio recap, the initial vibe I got was that we lost. Continuing on, Dan and Pete were flabbergasted, disbelieving, incredulous, almost lost for words. They couldn't justify picking 3 stars on a night that a 'cats player had a hat trick.

Last 2 UMA goals were PPG, both for too many 'cats on the ice. Ugly.

Nice to see a NH player Chris Miller contributing.

If we win tonight the trend is positive.

Here's how the Union Leader saw it:

http://www.unionleader.com/article/20151024/SPORTS22/151029457

Here's hoping our 'Cats can bounce back and play the full 60 minutes they are looking to play. Union will be tough, tough, tough but they showed last night that yes, they can be scored upon. Playing there will be half the battle. Anyway...you are right nice to see a nh kid get his first goal! I'm rewatching the first period this morning since I missed it.

While I know this happens (too many men on the ice) unfortunate it happened to us...twice..in succession I believe? Please explain to this still newbie fan, what happens, the line change call is missed? Someone isn't off fast enough? What's the usual sequence of events? I am not out to blame anyone just always wonder how it happens. Yes, people and players make mistakes I get that.

And on another note from the twitterverse here's a nice article about TvR to brighten up your morning coz I'm still in the throes of last night and I need to just get over myself...for a change. Awesome to see he's contributing and getting some quality mins while Duncan Keith is out:

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

This is absolutely one time where playing again in 24 hours is the best possible scenario.

After 'Watcher's prodigious post-game content last weekend, Dan is the leader at the halfway mark this weekend.

The record may stand at only 1-2-1 but somehow it feels like 0-3-1. Is it too late to play AIC again?

Is it possible that after last season's impressive finish, this year's team is (gulp) ... overconfident??

All you need to know is Coach (the whistling one) plans the line changes, and then implements those line changes.

Once in awhile (less than 10%?), it *might* be a player error. But twice ... in a row, end of game, etc.??

I'd love to be able to offer a defense for Coach on this one, but I can't. It really is simple as that, I'm afraid. :(

Sigh. Well, then the next point is...ya gotta defend that PP. Agree Chuck...it's good the 'Cats are playing tonight, frankly, regardless of the result. Gotta get back on the horse and give it another shot. Here we go 'Cats!!! Find the way...

And even in that game, UNH trailed twice and had to come from behind against a team that is perennially awful.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

Question 1: Any truth to the old adage …. “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – I am old and experience a grudging tendency to avoid CHANGE, as it also would appear to apply to coaches.

Question 2: Any truth to the idea that calling a time out when things are “not good” CHANGE seems to work sometimes?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – UMass did when trailing by many goals and may have one thing that CHANGED the flow of the game

Question 3: Any truth to the UMass radio announcers indicating UNH line CHANGES
are a mess?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Too many men on the ice penalties a function of line CHANGES.

Question 4: Any truth to the idea that CHANGING line assignments for players, even if they are seniors, requires flexible personality in a position of authority.
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Current status quo, status quo, status quo ……….

Question 5: Any truth to the idea that CHANGING goalies during/between games seems to alter “things”?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – The CHANGE seemed to work for UMass, not only reason but helped.

Question 6: Any truth to the idea that imperial presidencies tend to avoid CHANGING their own leadership positions until they are removed from office?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Multiple examples from organizations, companies, and government.

Question 7: Any truth to the idea that some Division 1 programs have done well after coaching CHANGES?
Answer –Yes
Rationale – Providence, Union, Lowell, Q, reader may add to list ….

Question 8: Any truth to the idea that winning/losing teams CHANGES game attendance?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – UNH attendance has CHANGED from 6K to 4K, even with half-price and other ticketing schemes.

Question 9: Any truth to the observation that the current student fan section is the best it has been in years?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Personal observation of fans and the up and down CHANGES since the
Whitt opened - and even going back to Snively 67-68.

Question 10: Any truth to the observation that the current players are a committed group of athletes?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Division I hockey is a very long season - and it is indeed challenging to meet the CHANGES in focus required while meeting academic/athletic demands.

Question 11: Any truth to the observation that some long time fans and supporters have been worn down by non-existent CHANGES during last dozen or so years?
Answer – Yes
Rationale – Just ask them.

“IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE DIRECTION, YOU MAY
END UP WHERE YOU ARE HEADING”
Lao Tzu

or

“PROGRESS IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT CHANGE,
AND THOSE WHO CANNOT CHANGE THEIR MINDS
CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING”
G.B. Shaw

Sanford is most certainly not a supporting role player at BC this season. He will be a top scorer this yr.
