I see a lot of promise in Salvaggio. Hopeful he will be a key contributor by next season if he gets enough ice time this year.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

I'm wondering if the first line of Seniors is intended as somewhat of a checking line (clearly they are not a scoring line) used to neutralize the first lines of opponents. If this concept can work, then the goal scorers / playmakers can play on the 2nd and 3rd lines vs 2nd and 3rd of opponents and be successful. Just a thought.....

I agree with the Salvaggio comment, I saw something in him towards the end of last season.

I'm really liking what I see from the 4th line. Lots of energy and and hard work.

Isn't the North Country coming there?

It's a Belichickian reference. You can catch some of his best on myface and snapface! Maybe even twitterface;)

The "Captain's Corner" is a nice touch, C-H-C. I know others have already stated this, but truly do appreciate all of your quality work! Also, appreciate what Parker Wheeler has done thus far.

Umile has essentially said as much. Someone said that their play was superior to what the box score indicated - I hope it was, because if they struggled against the top line of AIC (arguably the worst team in all of DI hockey) they'll have a hard time this year against HE first lines. The final score and the post-game comments indicate that the whole team struggled with their defensive responsibilities, so hopefully they can iron that out before next week...

Poor competition through two games, but I like the make-up of the other three lines. Kelleher and Poturalski look primed for All-Hockey East, and maybe All-American, seasons. Correale compliments them well with his speed and space clearing style. He should pick up his fair share of easy goals playing with those two. Foegel, Eiserman & Vela have all the ingredients and I think they'll develop into a dependable second line. I loudly expressed my opinion that McNicholas and Salvaggio should have played more last year. I expect them to have good seasons.

Very little Nazarian in the exhibition - in the seats last night. Hope he gets at least a game next weekend. Clark too...

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

Does anyone know why Quast was a healthy scratch from last night's game?

(1) Because he's just not good enough to warrant a guaranteed slot? and/or
(2) The opposition (Almost In College) pretty much made this a second exhibition?

But a win's a win, so that's one down, and bring on SLU ...

In other news Brett Pesce scores his first pro goal (and gets an assist) today....

Happy Columbus day or Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends! ..an article about Brian McCloskey and his new coaching gig:

That's a great article on Coach McCloskey ... a truly good guy who got caught in a tough spot, and who deserved better. I've just edited out the rest of my paragraph, as I'm taking his lead, moving on, and letting bygones be bygones. I'm pleased to see Coach Umile is still part of his regular circle, which reflects well on both gentlemen.

Did anyone else read the FDD front pager on the *problem* with sellouts at Cowell Stadium this season?

Only in the Kingdom of Blue Skies can a sellout ever be considered a problem ...

Thanks for the article links, HR and Chuck; I would have missed both.

To save me looking stuff up with dying iPhone battery, what are the capacities of Cowell Stadum East, the old west bleachers, and the new Cowell West?

The new West Stadium will have 5,200 seats. The box score for the Homecoming game shows attendance of 16,713 which obviously is a typo with the (1) inadvertently added(I had trouble getting a ticket for the Homecoming game but managed to get in so you can add one to that total!).

The total capacity with the new West Stadium and the old Cowell is supposed to be around 12,000 I believe.

In what world is being 5,000-6,000 seats shy of capacity not a problem? Even assuming that we're only 3000 short of capacity, we're talking $19/ticket (minimum price, GA), which translates into around $60K in lost revenue and more than a few PO'ed fans. It's an unfortunate outcome of changing the wings while the plane is in flight. It is a problem... I hope the construction wraps on time, and that the team plays to a level that guarantees heavy attendance in the coming years. This year looks a little rough, after big losses to graduation.

You forgot to wish us a happy Our Lady of Apericida/Child's Day down here!

Great article - like Umile says, it's a shame that SECONDS of behavior has such an impact on a long career, but that's our world these days. Great that he's landed on his feet, with the obvious support of many references/colleagues.

Goldrich out with a high ankle sprain doesn't help matters either.

Not necessarily. In the recent past, UNH had sold about twice as many tickets for homecoming as Cowell officially held, knowing that many are coming just to tailgate (a game ticket being necessary to get onto Boulder to tailgate).
