Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

Outstanding idea leaving the pom poms at home tonight. I recall when this would have been a pretty competitive game in years past. Not that UNH would always prevail, but we'd see a great hockey game. Now, not so much. BC 5 UNH 2

Meanwhile across the street, UNH football finishes what could be considered a "down" year with a record of 7-4. Winning four straight to end the season at least puts them in a position to watch the NCAA selection show tomorrow to see if they get an at large bid into the FCS tourney. Not bad Coach Mac after a major exodus of seniors last year. Maybe they get in, who knows. But with the new stadium coming, a solid core returning in 2016, I think the future is pretty exciting for Wildcat football.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled disfunctional program.....

Coach Mac and the FCATS across the street did indeed get in with a home game vs Colgate Saturday at 3:30pm in the dreaded DUNGEON! Way to go!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

Highly skilled teams like the Eagles have to be sharp each game to be sure coz everyone wants to beat them. And on any given night esp in hockey this is a very real possibility! Yes they are blessed with exceptional lines to roll out all night long and eventually this was the difference in the game.

I didn't expect them to look past UNH per se and to play at a top level game in and game out has to be tough thing to maintain. I took a look at their results just before this game and can see it hasn't exactly been a roll in the park. Q for you did you see this game and if so how do you think they played (BC) from your perspective?
BCeagle was in the house, but I'll throw in my 2 cents if you don't mind...
The Eagles looked pretty much like they have all season. Unimpressive at first glance, as they won't WOW you with a Johnny Hockey or Gerbe type player, but they are 4 lines deep and are tenacious hard workers for 60 minutes. They'll play any type of game that suits the situation... speed game/finesse, physical, net crashing or defensive shut down game.

I thought they got off to a slow start last night, but I credit UNH for a lot of that. UNH came out buzzing and put us on the defensive right away. Your boys did a great job of knocking down passes and filling passing lanes. The entire first period seemed like a 'feeling out' period for both teams. But, by playing even with UNH, this actually plays into BC's favor this year (last season this would be big trouble for BC). As we got half way through the second, I said... "this is starting to look like the MSU game. We're wearing them down." Sure enough, bang, we score. Third period, at times, looked like a shooting gallery. Except for a few 'got their second wind' spurts, UNH was out of gas. BC's depth did you in.

That's this year's version of BC hockey in a nutshell. They keep coming at you and coming at you and coming at you. They do not let up, they do not slow down... every line that rolls over the boards. Tenacious. That's one tough type of team to beat.

Geez, I remember saying stuff like this a year ago. So, what's the difference? Well, there's just a 'little bit' ;) more high end talent on this BC club. You saw glimpses of it last night, with offensive puck possession cycling, odd man rushes with tape to tape passes that make the game play look like it was an undefended practice drill, and guys that can find the back of the net. UNH did a GREAT job of breaking up a lot of those rushes and limiting the damage last night. Great job by the Wildcats.

Thanks great overview of the game from a fan perspective! Yes boy they are deep where we are thin depth wise. And you can't win big games without that depth...See you at Conte!

Wait what???? I did NOT expect this!! Excellent news!!

Cowell was wall to wall yesterday. Football has a very strong following. It was a fun atmosphere! Hockey was **** near a sellout too. Proud to be an alum!

E. Cat, I definitely realize that. I actually watch on the Internet from way down here. What was surprising to me was that we were kind of on the edge, rankings-wise, and I didn't think a Musket win would matter, given that we had a couple bad losses. I was just happy we kept the gun. Then, to see this, well....

Hey we should make the HE tournament, too! :p:rolleyes::D Seriously, I'm happy for 'Cat fans nationwide, and, world wide in your case!! Tix go on sale tomorrow; thinking of getting a couple. We went to the Championship game last December...might make a day of it we'll see.

ALMOST made it last year... Lost in the semifinals, unfortunately, for the second year in a row.

I guess we can chalk this playoff bid up to yet MORE evidence of the worst-run athletic department in the history of the NCAA. And just think, next year, they have to move into a stadium of Exeter HS proportions (after a $25 MILLION upgrade, that clearly should have been done in 2-3 months time). What an embarrassment.

69 NCAA tournament appearances in 16 years. 4.3 teams per year reaching their respective "dances". Oh the horror.

Carry on.....

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part One) - Return of the "Champions of December"??

I was really disappointed to see the mass exodus of 'fans' from the BC/UNH game with about 5 minutes to go. And the standard response to that is 'if you want fan support don't play poorly.' But for the great majority of the game the Cats played well. They worked their butts off against one of the top teams in the country and were right in the game until the last few minutes. It would have been nice to see a little recognition of that from the so called fans.

But rising up the ranks of hockey fandom in record time!!

Getting there to be sure. Appreciate the tolerance as I move from 'what's a blueliner' ;) to "that's interference". haha! Hey wait...that WAS a championship we went to last Dec in Cowell, am I correct?

That was a loss to Illinois State in the semis which would have sent us to the finals vs. NDSU. IIRC, they scored on their final possession to beat us.

All games prior to the finals are played on campus sites, with the finals held at a neutral location - last year was Frisco ,Texas.

Wildcatdc, those thingies called lights must be a recent invention that just hit the seacoast not to mention the lack of support from the state! The worst run athletic program in the country should be appalled! I tell you what, those kids on the field must not have gotten the memo, cuz they sure looked happy and proud to be wildcats!
