UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Never really cared for the Mullin Center. Always seemed dingy to me. Perhaps that's just the leftover residue from Coach Cal's time there. There aint a power washer strong enough to clean that place up after his years there.

Not to mention the trip to Amherst itself sucks. Always marveled at the UNH fans who whine about the trek to Orono. Would rather make that trip any day compared to the UMass jaunt.

Speaking of that trek yes it's a drag. Am going to Durham to ride with my seat mates to break it up. Orono for me is close to 5 but can't do it this year as the game is on a Friday this time around. Amherst..."can't get there from here" !!'

UMA athletics, the higher profile sports anyway, could use a shower as well. Maybe they could get some UML athletics body wash from the River Hawks.

Appreciate this article very much! What a transition it has been with all of the goal keeper stuff, but settling in now. Kudos to both Clark and Tirone for their hard work and self sacrifices they have made this season! Loved Danny's thoughts about why he chose UNH...we are glad you did.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Both Mullins and Conte were built for basketball. Neither has a center ice scoreboard. The drive out to Amherst is really not too bad except when you try to do that on a Friday night of a long weekend. Then it sucks.

Clark gets the nod tonight Pesce out Cleland / Marks top D
All lines the same.

Are you making the drive from Boston, Scarlet? If so, I can imagine it might be a bit better than from the east than from the north

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

I made the drive back in October the Friday of Columbus Day Weekend when BU played there. :) The Pike heading out of the city was awful. Took us four hours to get there.

Already in my seat. Will start feeling sick to my stomach in about 45 minutes!

Listening on the radio; sounds like lots of good two-way hockey at Mullins?

I, too, liked Jeff's article. But, I had to laugh when Umile told him that he never had a player arrive mid-year in over 20 years at UNH until Tirone. Umile must be trying to forget about Garrett Stafford being academically intelligible fall semester of his senior year, when he took the wrong gen ed course during summer school in southern California. But, Stafford turned out to be a key guy on that team by picking up 16 assists from the blue line in 23 games in the second half to get them to the NC game.

Love the optimism. My take is this...

We are 3-1-1 in our last 5 games, with two wins and an OT loss against Top 15 teams. We are averaging 3.6gpg in that span, giving up 2.2gpg. We have an emerging young goaltender (but two games do not a trend make!), and seem to be producing a bit more in the offensive zone. All of these things could portend a nice second half.

While I can't get behind a 12-point, 3-weekend prediction, I'd be happy with 4-2 or 4-1-1!

Ouch. I said that "that there is no reason why the Cats should not pick up 12 points over the next three weekends." But, I guess that there are lots of reasons why 12 points might not have been realistic. I live in a non-real world, I guess.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

A couple of things we might have learned from tonight's game ......

Let Tirone play a few games in a row until he needs to be given a rest .....

Quast should sit after two crosschecking penalties that led to two UMass goals .....

Pesce holds this team together .....

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Well that sucked. :mad::rolleyes:

Just shows you how lost the UNH defense is when Pesce is out of the lineup. Anyone know why he wasn't playing tonight?

Tirone should get the nod tomorrow night...and if by some miracle UNH pulls off a win, expect Clark to spend considerable time riding the pine.

Gawd.....I can't recall a more frustrating season of UNH hockey than this one :( (OK, mid-1980's not included ;) )

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Offense: Looked good, Lots of good movement on the Powerplays and That Thrush-Downing-Kelleher line is still on fire.

Defense: UMass relied heavily on the transition game for their goals. Consistently they looked for and found the third man coming into the zone for their goals. UNH failed to pick up that trailer and failed to fix that mistake all night and it cost them.

Clark: For the The first time this season I will place some of the blame on him. He has been solid all year and has kept UNH in games, but tonight every time the 'Cats tied it up UMass would come down the ice get one shot on net and score. Clark has been really good at making that first stop this season and tonight he just didn't seem to have it.

It was not a pretty game to watch and you could definitely tell that they missed Pesce on the back end. And according to Dan Parkhurst it's an upper respiratory illness and he isn't expected to be able to play tomorrow either. So the young defense needs to step up. I expect that we will see Tirone in net tomorrow.
