Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that Felger.

Thanks so much for letting me know that HockeyRef. Means a lot to me. I hope that eventually you'll have just as many (or even more) recollections of great UNH hockey moments, and that you can pass them on to yet another generation of UNH Hockey maniacs to enjoy![]()
Great to have you back before the post-season this year, "original" snively. I am heading to the big ice sheet (Antarctica) next Friday until late January, so trust that you folks will keep this thread hopping during my Internet silence.
So, I did get to see Louuu-iiii (with accent on that second syllable by the screaming Snively fans) for every home game during his three seasons in Durham, 1968-1969 to 1970-1971. Frigon was a fluid skater, especially compared with his right wing, fellow Québécois and an indigenous Abenaki (I think) Guy Smith. I still remember their odd man rushes the length of the ice, which commonly led to the puck in the back of the opposing net. I cannot remember who played left wing with those two, as Umile skated second line those last two years, I believe, moving up to first line after those two graduated. Loui finished his three years (frosh did not play varsity back then) with 98 G, 95 A, 193 Pts, in 89 games, so over 2 Pts per game as you noted. Sorry that I missed the next few years at Snively while in grad school, first in Orono (before they had an indoor rink and hockey team there; "I would rather be stabbed in Lowell than a Black Bear in Maine"), and then Boulder (still no Div 1 hockey there). But, I saw some of those post-season games on national TV.(my first smiley in over a month).
Great stuff Snively65. I'll even forgive you for running away from the cold here to head to a place in the height of mid summer.
I'm sad to say I got to see neither Frigon nor Smith, even though I moved to Durham in November of 1968 and stayed until graduating from Oyster River in June of 1970. I didn't know until now that Smith was Abenaki. Pretty interesting tidbit. Thanks also for spelling Quebec correctly
The 98 goals and 95 assists in 89 games... wow. 'Nuf said. And you will corroborate my claim that Snively was, shall we say, thunderous noise wise, no?
Have a great summer vacation, and try to make it back before it all melts...
Along with Eiserman-Downing-Kelleher would be very interesting.Haha I hope that I will have some great memories to share! I do actually have a couple already, nothing too earth shattering tho like you guys! This season when it's all said and done will certainly be one of them for many reasons. Read last night that Umile is going to run Willow, Poturalski, and Fogele tonight as a line (here's hoping). Would love to surprise BC this weekend...I mean, e.cat said we would!Snively65 wow, enjoy your trip to big sheet. See ya later!

I read MMQB pretty regularly. Was shocked to see the "New Hampshire" headline on there.
Between things like that and of course Chip Kelly's evolution, UNH football seems to have an image for being close to, if not on, the cutting edge.

I remember him after practices when he moved back to the area in 1986-87. Doing curls above the circle, getting a puck and picking corners from 40 feet out. Just a rocket shot. Great to see him so level headed -- Greg Moffet from the 78-79 team also fits that mold of scholar athletes that Charlie Holt recruited.
Even though I was still a senior at ORHS, I was so involved with that on the campus that spring that be willing to bet we met. Remember "SPU" -- our tamed down of SDS? Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin speaking? And how about this? http://unhblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/1970-at-university-of-new-hampshire.htmlSpring 1970 was the year that students on college campuses "went on strike," including at UNH. I was very involved like many in the anti-war movement
Very few things in sports are lamer than that. Anyone who needs to be told that shouldn't be there anyway. "And, yes, the noise level could be deafening at times, as you remember snively, which always makes me laugh when they flash the words "Make Noise" on the digital board at the far end of The Whitt
Now I'm REALLY intrigued. His first name?My brother, who was back from Colorado for Thanksgiving, still remembers your hiking/camping trips in the Whites, snively.
Funny you should mention that. My wife (also a UNH) student was a waitress at the Tin Palace -- another place hockey players would go (she tells me they were particularly good tippers). The Q&A extended to the Down Under (pub under Town & Campus, where many of our hockey players were celebrities; drinking age was 18 during Viet Nam War years, but not sure that I remember ever seeing Umile there).
Scott! How cool is that? Tell him I said hi, and let me know how I can ask to Facebook Friend him (or vice versa). Tell him also that Richard Jones -- the other component of our infamous Tuckerman's Ravine (let's just call it "Tuck's") foray --is already Friended there.Great Jerwy York story.
Yes, my brother Scott, you, and Bill Kelly were the ORHS anti-war ring leaders, as I recall. Bill's older sister's boyfriend Gary Anderson filmed Mayflowers. The 40-year anniversary event at UNH was organized by an ORHS student. Mark Wefers no doubt saved many lives that spring night in 1970 by warning the 7000+ students that the campus was surrounded by hundreds of armed guardsmen waiting to move in to quell any rioting with deadly force (no question like at Kent State), so students amazingly retreated to the safety of their dorms. I realize that this story is thread drift, but the hockey season was over, and we had nowhere else to vent our frustration.
So, given that a BC-UNH weekend game thread is unlikely to be started by a Cats fan, what are our predictions for this coming weekend? I will get crazy and say that the Cats will pick up 1 point with a tie In Durham, with a close loss at Conte, where we do manage to squeak out yet another win in the SOG.
