AND Black Betty!

Yes, even Black Betty tonight. Mahty must be fuming, but his lawyers have probably told him to lay low?

Have fun at Alfond tomorrow, but wear your raincoats, as Maine fans are known to throw drinks all over UNH fans, especially on the losing end of a home and home. :-)

Is that it! Everybody with all the ******ing and moaning about the season so far and this team treats you to an exciting win like that. And all you can say is that they played Black Betty? How about a little love for their effort tonite? Whatta ya say kids?

Good call, Goldie. The Cats really did dig deep tonight. Umile mixed his D pairings the entire game, and as anyone could see, in the first period, despite their goal in the first 45 seconds, the D-men were in disarray. But, the D-men started playing better in the second and third periods. Ditto for the forwards, as only the first line was intact. The Cats will be without two of their top four scorers for the next 4-6 weeks. Tonight was a must win for them. Even if they do not win at Alfond tomorrow, I think that they can run the table in their last eight games. The Cats need home ice and a trip to the Gahden to have any shot at a NCAA berth this season, and I think that they know it. I am very pleased with how they played tonight, and my guess is that Umile is also.

I actually met him (Marty) tonight as a friend of mine knows everyone it seems associated with UNH hockey...Also met TVR. As per the jersey for tomorrow might at the Alfond my hubby forbids me as I'm going alone .. I was thrilled to see the team score right off...thought they battled hard. Mattie Willows got into it and I thought for sure he would get tossed! Way to go 'Cats! A sweep would be sweet ! (yeah I know the deal "up there" with the win streak; time to break it! :) )

Throw drinks and spit chewed popcorn. Seriously. It happened.

Oh, and BTW, that embellishment call on Correale was horrible. In general, I think that HE refs are good, but that call was gutless.

Back to page 1.......

So, who does Umile start in net this weekend? Wyer on Friday and DeSmith on Saturday?

I guarantee Umile is going with DeSmith Friday and Saturday;)

BTW, I thought DeSmith was exceptional last night:)

There was an outstanding rendition of the national anthem by "The Rev" at Friday night's game. I don't think he needs the microphone.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

I was very impressed with Maller last night. Cleland still looks like a work in progress, and Quast ... well, it looked like Coach Umile was rotating 5 D-men down the stretch, so I didn't see him out there too often in the last two periods.

Knodel looked like the best player on the ice every time he was out there. Pesce and Agosta moved the puck well, overall, I thought UNH did better than I expected at transitioning the puck out of their own end. Seemed like with the absence of TvR, there was a lot less standing around, and a lot more skating out there. Not sure if it's sustainable, but it did get them 2 big points last night.

Also want to give kudos to Tyler Kelleher, who seemed very active and effective on the backcheck - more than I've seen previously, anyway. Tonight's game will be a test. An improbable road win at Alfond would put the 'Cats in 4th place all alone, at least for now. :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Ya, Maller has looked pretty good. I thought Pesce stepped up his game as well. BIG K(Knodel) is da man!!

Not sure why you think a win up there is improbable. UNH has had its share of success up there over the past decade, and Quellette tends to be a little off the second night of the weekend.

Sticking to improbable, felger. Not that I'd mind being proven wrong. As bad as UMaine is on the road, they're almost the opposite at home (9-1-0) ... but of those wins, only BC would be considered a top notch opponent. UVM has the only win at Alfond, so it's doable IF everything falls into place. But UNH has been wildly inconsistent and will be starting some very inexperienced defensemen in a very hostile environment. I'm still sticking with the 4-2 UMaine prediction tonight, but would LOVE to see UNH find a way to take this one.

I do really believe this will be a "must win" for UMaine's chances at HE home ice (arguably the same for UNH) so the pressure is on the home team to perform.

Uhhh.....not sure as to why you needed to drag up something that I posted back in October???

Anyhoo....yeah, DeSmith definitely had one of his better games last night. Especially when the D-men were actually playing decent "D" in front of him ;)

Uhhhh, not sure why I did either except my android keeps taking me to older pages on the thread. I think I saw your post and thought it was a recent post not looking closely enough at it. My bad. I was going to go into a diatribe about why you were suggesting Wyer to begin with since he's injured. Glad I refrained;)

I was really impressed with DeSmith's game/effort last night. Despite the fact I thought he looked shaky all game, he was determined in the third, batting rebounds out of the air and away from the net with his blocker, glove, stick - anything he could find!

Totally agree at one point his helmet flew off and he just kept at it! First game all season the 'Cats I thought kept a decent push throughout the game...kudos to them! Up here finally; tough ride in the snow loads of cars off the road. Heres to a Wildcat win! :)

I see you found the Alfond Arena parking lot. Kinda reminded me of a salvage yard on my first trip up, too. :D
